I completely agree...I like the concept of the contestant both literally and figuratively "facing" the Big Numbers.
I can't remember how they handled breaks during the show...did they ever go straight from Big Numbers into introducing a challenger and starting a new match? (Or, for that matter, straight from a match into Big Numbers?) If they did, that could be one reason the table transition never made it to series, because it only really works to use it if there is going to always be a break between the front and end games, as a transitional as they go to break, like they did on PYL.
I also like the bit of speedup they had in the Big Numbers flashing at the start of the show (after the sequential "clap" sequence). Total aesthetic effect, yes, but for some reason it made me feel like I was about to be presented with a more fast-paced game. [/quote]
Most segments seemed to time out to about 6 minutes on High Rollers, and Big Numbers (like most standard end games) tended to clock at about 3 minutes, so they did play the Big Numbers in the same segment as the main game on several occasions (both before and after). The dice table move would require repositioning cameras or having additional cameras, which would almost certainly require either additional time (in the form of stopdowns) or additional labor (in the form of cameramen and grips). The effect certainly was cool for a pilot where they could guarantee that the Big Numbers would happen at the start of a segment and they could do the repositioning during the prior break, but it wouldn't be cost-effective for a series where the Big Numbers could come at any time.

Here's another HR question: Was there ever a maingame where 1 was the only remaining number on the board. If so, how was it handled if anyone remembers from all those years ago? I know that a contestant won $800(and the game ended) if 1 was the only remaning number on the board in the Big Numbers round.

The winner of the resulting question would end up the victor. (they'd answer correctly, pass, roll would be impossible)

This makes sense, but did it ever actually happen? I KNOW it happened in the BN a few times, but I don't ever recall seeing it happen in the front game (at least on Martindale's version).

I don't recall it happening in the maingame on WInk's version(perhaps it did a few times in the Trebek years, those with 25-30 year old memory might recall better than us)
