Hollywood Squares review in EW

Over there you have a choice, at least. There are people who are known for hosting game shows and probably couldn't get another job because people think \"I'm not watching that, he's a game show host\" (see Monkhouse, Bob; and Forsythe, Bruce). On the other hand, there are people that can and do get other jobs with varying success (Robinson, Anne; Richie, Shane; Burns, Gordon).

Here, I think the idea still applies, just less so. I would hate to think that Louie Anderson or Greg Proops are branded as a game show hosts, although I think that Newton or Finn would be hard pressed to find something else to do.

[quote name=\'ChuckNet\' date=\'Jul 28 2003, 10:52 AM\'] Funny you should mention that...when H2 and MG '98 first premiered, someone suggested that Bergeron and Michael Burger switch jobs, and I agree that he'd do quite well on another celeb comedy game like MG.

Wasn't Burger supposed to host the HS half of the Planet Hollywood Squares/New Gong Show Hour in '96?

Newton has his out--he can always do the celeb/entertainment beat, thanks to his tenure at E! (and that's what got him the radio gig at Blink in New York, since they want to be a celeb/entertainment-driven station).  And since so much of his E! work was voice-over, he could have a good career at that, especially if a client wants a slickster-type voice in their spots.  Like Sajak, Finn was a weatherman before he got into game shows, and while it would be a step back for Sajak, Finn can always go back to that (see O'Connell, Kevin).

Oh, speaking of EW, that same issue has an item in News & Notes that \"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind\" will be re-released in New York and LA on Aug. 15, using a \"there are many good films that audiences miss--this is one of them, don't miss it this time\" campaign.  However, the video/DVD release is still set for Sept. 16--but it seems that Weinstein at Mirimax might be hoping for some quick art-house bucks before the home release.

I think he was reported as a possible host for PLanet HS, but I didn't hear anything at the time about it being paired up with Gong Show. Though Sony did do a pilot for a new Gong around 1996 or 1997 with comedian Chuck Booms as a host.

I feel like a jerk saying this, but I think that was just an attempt at humor, too.
