Brad Rutter, the player who still holds the record for most cash won on
"Jeopardy!" ($1,155,102, although that total was augmented today to
$1,202,787 with the two Camaros he won), was interviewed on the CBS
"Early Show" today: some of the highlights:

"I would like to play him (KJ) at some point - the longer it keeps up,
the better chance I have to go back."

Impressed by KJ's stamina (to go 30+ shows).

"It would take a strange combo of things to defeat Ken, such as the
categories going against him; someone getting FJ right and Ken missing;
the ideal person to beat Ken would be someone who has a similar
broad base of knowledge, can stay with him on buzzer speed, and of
course, luck."

Rutter returned to take part in an "I Love the 90's" trivia contest about
movies later in the show and finished in a tie for second place behind
co-anchor Harry Smith and correspondent Tracy Smith.

Who do you think would be the "third player" in a matchup involving
Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings? Some of my choices: Eric Newhouse,
Chuck Forrest, Robin Carroll, Brian Weikle, Leszek Pawlowicz,and Leslie
Frates (who well might have won the MDM if not for sticking with a zero
wager in her semi-final game.).

As we've pointed out before, Leszek has the distinction of having never lost on Jeopardy. Among regular contestants, I believe the only other person with that claim is...well, Ken. And since Leszek is a member here, I think a lot of us would want him in that third position.

Still, knowing Jeopardy, if they were going to do a one-game "grudge match" exhibition, they'd almost certainly want to put a woman in there, and that pretty much would mean either Robin or Leslie.

The more likely scenario would be another gathering of all-time greats for a two-week tournament, something they might consider for the Silver Anniversary a few years down the road.

Might they want to do a Super Jeopardy-type series of primetime specials like they did 15 years ago? I think it would do fairly well on Saturdays relative to the reruns they usually air on that night.

They've got to convince a network to pick it up (and they would probably have to give CBS first crack, considering that they and King World are now under the same ownership). It could happen, but "Super Millionaire" was just respectable in its ratings, not a world-beater.

(After I wrote this, I realized that it seems that King World only has an interest in just the daily version and that Sony seems to have sole control of any other version or license of "J!"--KW's name didn't appear on "R&RJ!" or "Jep!" and their name doesn't appear on the "J!" desk calendar in front of me.

I'm not suggesting that it be anything other than a minor program. Sure, it wouldn't be a barn burner in the ratings, but I think it would get a pretty good number.

With the advent of year-round network programming, the networks need to do things like this every so often. They've got a lot of hours to fill during prime time and they can't all be CSI.

If considering J! champs from the Fleming era, how about J. Wo.(Jay Wolpert), who won the J! TofC in 1969.

Shame on me. I forgot all about him. The TOC was then called The Jeopardy! World Tournament, yes?

I think Ken might be better suited for an international tournament somewhere down the road here with the player winning the most money's country acting as the host(in this case, the US). I wonder how'd he fair against some of the finest from Europe.

Internationally, there may not be much out there: Denmark still has
their version on the air, and I think Sweden still has theirs (although they
may be on hiatus ). Estonia? Germany has a website, but it hasn't been
updated in four years and may be off the air.
Australia: unless they notice what is going on here and decide to give J!
another try (longer than six months)......
