"Late Breaking News"...

the CBS station I get, WWJ 62 Detroit -- a CBS O&O -- carries NO local news.
Which I find fascinating as WWJ Radio is one of the best all-news stations around.
Weren't WWJ the original call letters for the TV outlet now known as WDIV?

Doug -- and the countdown to 500 continues
Yes, Channel 4 was originally WWJ-TV and owned with the radio station by The Detroit News newspaper.  When ordered to divest the TV station in 1978, the station was swapped with Post-Newsweek for a TV station in Washington D.C. (Channel 9, formerly WTOP).  Channel 4 became WDIV at that time.  The radio station ended up with Infinity some years later.  Channel 62 was owned by the International Free and Accepted Modern Masons until 95 and had the call letters WGPR.  CBS had to scramble to get an affiliate in Detroit after then New World-owned Channel 2 was absorbed by Fox.  The only station they could get was WGPR and that was through the purchase of Channel 62.  There really is no need for local news on 62.  2, 4 and 7 cover it quite well and are well-ingrained with the Detroit viewing public.

That's surprising - I haven't heard of very many newscasts actually being cancelled.
There have been plenty of newscasts canceled over the past few years; in fact, a number of stations have dropped all newscasts outright.  And not just tiny-market indie stations, either -- one was the ABC affiliate in St. Louis.

Of course, there are also the Sinclair stations that dropped local news while pretending to keep it... oops, there I go editorializing again.
And guess who owns KDNL, the ABC station in St. Louis that got out of local news?  That's right--Sinclair.

And on the last night at the end of the last newscast, you could see at the edge of the screen the uniformed security guards ready to escort the talent out of the station as soon as they went off the air.

What's the Point of that, Mark Hayman?

ObGameShow:  The newscast was replaced by "TWL."

KNBC used to have a 4pm news until Dr Phil came along.  They ran Syndie WL at 3pm, leading into KNBC's 4pm news, that disappeared for Dr Phil.

Lose your gameshow centric-ways, and learn that there are more important things in the world....besides "Hollywood Squares".
LOL, you must be on the wrong forum!
Not really.
I just have a broader view of the world, I guess.
