A coworker once sent me a picture of a Plinko chip someone had given him, asking me whether I thought it was authentic. I replied that I couldn't be certain, but I did know that the actual Plinko chips used on the show are kept in a locked container, and there are only ten of them. In the end, we concluded that while his chip looked real, it was possible it came from the live show.

This eBay listing is light on details, but the lack of wear and tear visible in the pictures leads me to believe these weren't used on the show. I know the props folks made some lookalike chips for photo shoots, which would be easier to "lose track of"... I wonder whether that's what those are.

Meanwhile, when I checked out that listing, the algorithm suggested a listing for an animation cel from the opening to 1979's Beat the Clock, which seems more likely to be authentic.

Creating chips that look authentic seems like something someone with a little crafting talent could probably do for not terribly much money.  If someone is willing to drop $1200 and not be worried about proof of provenance, there might be money to be made there.

Nice.  There appears to be a second one of just the clock, in case somebody else wants to score a rare item.

There's a store on Etsy that does this.  I've actually bought a replica wheel and the video game coasters and have been very happy with all of it

The video game coasters came out brilliantly though the sizing ratio  wasn’t quite the same scale as the original cartridges and her Wheel of Fortune work is fantastic.  I don’t love the prices of the actual pricing game sets but I’m not facile at 3D printing. It’s a nice little cottage industry and she has the advantage of being the only game in town

Right? I'm not totally worthless with Fusion, and a roll of filament is, what, around $10? That and a little paint and I can get a 60000% return on my investment? Where do I sign?

There were actually at least 11 originally made in 1982. As you know, like most every other game on the show, a duplicate set of small props exists. For Plinko, there was at least one “test” Chip used by the stagehands or staff when testing the board so that the chips on air would not get damaged or visibly worn. It would actually make sense that that made a full set for that purpose, but I can’t say for certain. I do, however, know the whereabouts of a test chip marked “Stage Right Props.”

In the end, we concluded that while his chip looked real, it was possible it came from the live show.

The value and condition (and approximate size) leads me to believe the same thing for these. I have a set of them which look very similar (and off colored from the real chip).
