Pass The Buck

Now that GameTV has completed the run of Pass The Buck, some comments on the series.

It's a neat little show that had some funny game play from time to time.  It really challenged your memory skills especially when it came to not repeating an answer.

The bonus was interesting that all four contestants remained on the show until someone won, then that person stayed to face three new competitors.  I think in some ways that was a bit of a flaw.  There were times where the same people were on the show for five or six straight days because nobody could win the bonus, where other times contestants came on and got to play one quick game only.  I can imagine future contestants waiting to get on where thinking "when I am going to get my chance" - especially on the last taping day.

The final episode ended mid-way through a game with $575 in the jackpot and two players left.  I expected Bill to say that they were splitting the money evenly between the final two contestants but he never did.  It seemed that they made the bonus round quite hard on the last few episodes.  All four players on the last shows won at least four-digit sums even though they couldn't win the bonus.  They had already been on for several shows.

That's two series Game TV has completed that GSN never did - Tom Kennedy's Break the Bank and this.  Hopefully there's more to come.  I'd still like to see more of the Jack Barry Break the Bank.

Watching the finale bonus rounds I found myself saying "WHAT??" to the monitor in regards to the bonus round difficulty each round - but then maybe it was done on purpose to keep the same crew on so they could make some decent money and not have to worry about a group getting a "one and done" game at the very end with no money won.

Spoiler-free observations:
- Bill's own erudition really shined through, I like how he often threw in tidbits of his own knowledge to justify seemingly obscure answers
- I can understand why the "say the secret answer" bonus was so short-lived, didn't add much to the game's enjoyment for me
- I lost track of how many times I exclaimed iteration of "are you kidding me" or "oh come ON", at both the judge's main game rulings and at ridiculously odd Fast Bucks answers that there was just no way the contestant would've said ;D

Back to Bill, he was naturally the main reason why I found so much joy in watching this one. You could tell he had genuine fun with it, especially when kidding around with the players.
