About a year ago, I previously shared
a video from KamSandwich, a YouTuber who reviews obscure, weird and just plain bad board games. While
his latest video is mostly unrelated to game shows, it does contain an interesting nugget worth noting here...
Apparently, there were two attempts at making a game show out of
The Ungame, which isn't so much a board game as it is "non-competitive
Candy Land with icebreaker questions." The sole existing source is
this 1981 newspaper interview with the game's creator, who claims that the first attempt made it as far as the pilot stage, but she disliked the fact that the unnamed host made snarky responses to the contestants' answers, which is completely against the spirit of the game. A second attempt, which didn't make it far past the office pitch, would've apparently been a life-size board game involving giant dice and cards.
Any of our industry insiders here able to corroborate this, perchance?
