Exactly 50 years ago today on this 4th of July was the death of 3 short-lived game show 1 NBC show and 2 ABC shows. The NBC show was Blank Check (which aired on the same day as Wheel of Fortune and the 2 ABC shows were The Big Showdown and The Moneymaze (both aired on ABC on December 23, 1974 and both ended on Independence Day 1975 (although the final week of The Moneymaze were repeats).

On the following Monday, NBC replaced Blank Check with The Magnificent Marble Machine which was also hosted by BC host: Art James and ABC replaced The Big Showdown and The Moneymaze with 2 new panel game shows: Rhyme and Reason hosted by Bob Eubanks and the short-lived revival of You Don't Say!

I still remember watching The Big ShowDown as a youth on ABC (on a black and white set no less).  This was a terrific show, the best of the three mentioned.  It's much too bad that it was never revived as it had an excellent mixture of knowledge, strategy and luck involved.

50 years, mercy it almost went by in the blink of an eye.
