New Book: "Celebrities on TV Game Shows"
« on: May 15, 2025, 01:25:48 PM »
From our friends at Bear Manor:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8Q58N7P

I helped them a tiny, tiny bit, mostly with I've Got a Secret (of course) and some TVG searching.  I can tell you that this is going to be the deepest dive into this very specific topic that you've ever seen, and much more carefully curated and researched than almost anything you're going to find on the internet.

The book is arranged alphabetically by the name of the game show, not by the celebrity.  Because this is such a massive project, it will be split into three volumes.  Volume one gets us up to It's Your Bet.  There is some question about how (or even whether) they're indexing the celebrities.  I asked one of the authors and even he wasn't even sure.  (They haven't seen the final product themselves yet.)  I also don't know the timeline for the other two volumes.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

Bumping to announce the release of volume 2:

There will be a third volume.  This one starts at It's Your Bet and gets slightly into the "T"s.  I still haven't heard whether there will be any sort of index alphabetized by celebrities.

I've already spent TENS of hours (not exaggerating) flipping through volume 1. I would call it a must-have for just about everyone here. The information is truly fascinating.

Really looking forward to volume 2 - thanks, Matt, for sharing. I haven't seen it announced anywhere else.

Can we get a volume discount if we all buy them?

Volume 2 arrived today. It's just as fascinating as the first.

Interestingly enough, It's Your Bet is ALSO in this version. I did not see any explanation as to why.

Matt, anything interesting about the IGAS information?

Matt, anything interesting about the IGAS information?

I haven't seen the book yet, but probably not compared to anything else in the book.  They were already working off a document that was easily 98% accurate, but they of course couldn't do a deep dive into every series the way I have with Secret, so I was able to give them a dozen or so corrections.  Mostly misspellings of the names of some of the more obscure guests and panelists.
