At GSC '98, we taped corrugated cardboard squares together then glued inkjet printed pips/SHOW's/DOWN's on the sides × 5 or 6 sets

25+ years later, laser color printers and more modern advances can likely make the dice look better in appearance, though the corrugated cardboard panels are still the least expensive route.
