Early CBS The Joker's Wild questions
« on: October 22, 2025, 06:09:26 PM »
A discussion about the early CBS episodes of The Joker's Wild led me to ask these questions:

1. When did the show switch from the "jokers & devils" bonus round to the "money & devils" one most of us are familiar with?

2. When did the show get rid of the Joker Jackpot (and presumably switch to the "car for 5 wins" rule)?

I do know that a lot of changes (changing the bonus round from "prizes on each reel" to "jokers & devils"; triples were $200 instead of $150; three jokers no longer automatically won the game, but required that a question be answered; Joker Jackpot was won with 3 wins instead of 4) happened at the start of the third week.

I had a thread about CBS episodes a long time ago. Face the Devil with no Joker's Jackpot was in place by episode 418, which by rough estimate, would have aired in May or June 1974. I've since learned that in mid-February 1974, they were still using the Jokers & Devil bonus round with a 3-win Joker's Jackpot. So that narrows it down a little bit, at least.
