Hosting Starcade got Geoff Edwards interested in video games.  Certainly not the quirkiest of hobbies, but I don't know many people that started gaming in their 50's.

I hear Richard Dawson enjoyed bowling with his buddies...

(He did indeed bowl a few times on Celebrity Bowling...whether he actually enjoyed it, and whether his teammates were his actual friends is anybody's guess...)
It's a well-known fact that Lincoln loved mayonnaise!

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't consider Shatner attending a Star Trek convention quirky, considering it's pretty much what made him famous.

For example, Summer Bartholomew also plays tennis.
Wow, that's...quirky?

Vanna White is also a singer and has performed in a few Broadway stage musicals.
I would be very curious about where you got that information.  Not the "singer" part, everybody thinks they're a singer.  I mean the "performed in a few Broadway stage musicals" part.  We're pretty picky here about being factually accurate.

Besides, the correct "quirky" answer was that Vanna crochets.

Having seen her "act" in Goddess of Love and the forgettable Gypsy Angels (where, by coincidence, she plays someone who lost the love of her life to a plane crash) I doubt she's ever done anything on Broadway. I'm not criticizing Vanna's talents at all, but she is best at being herself.

If we really want to STRETCH, Johnny Carson, one time game show host and occasional panelist on TTTT and IGAS, played tennis and also played the drums. One thing that WASN'T his thing... modeling. According to a new book on Johnny Carson coming out soon, Johnny Carson once had his own line of clothing. What he didn't think about was that since it was HIS line, he would have to model the clothes. During a photo session, Johnny grew steadily impatient, realizing that he absolutely HATED posing, much less being TOLD how to pose, and he snapped and stormed out of the studio. He put an end to the clothing line immediately after that.

Minor nitpick fixed.

Should we change this thread title to just hobbies? What really makes a quirky hobby?

Bill Cullen liked race cars and was a pilot. I believe he even tried to start up his own commuter airline in the early 1950s.
