Supermarket Sweep

Hi All,
I seem to remember reading somewhere that during season 1 of Sweep, there were people in the market during the Big Sweep as distractions. Is this true? If so could you please give some more info on this? Thanks!

EDIT: I just remembered that one character was Mr. Yuck what was this all about? Were there any other characters?

indeed the first season had monsters patrolling the isles forcing the contestant to turn back... this was dumb and quickly killed
