The Price is Right Live!
« on: May 17, 2011, 11:37:23 AM »
As some of you may know, I recently traveled to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday. Being the kind of person that I am, I obviously had to buy a ticket to attend a production of The Price is Right Live. I've written a fairly detailed experience about it and if you care to check it out, I've posted it at About.com Game Shows. It was truly a lot of fun and if anyone makes it that way, I give it two thumbs up on going.

Oh, so maybe someone else will see how JD Roberto fares with...

In all serious, though, it's fun, check it out.  I've seen it twice (AC in 2006, Vegas last year, both with Roberto as host) and while it did show signs of getting a little stale, it's still a heckuva good time.

The Big Wheel photo op is new to me.  Last year, there was a free photo-op outside the stage with the cast.  I guess someone got the bright idea of monetizing it.

Yeah, like I said, I was going to get the shirt anyway so why not pay an extra twelve quarters to meet the hosts and spin the wheel?

I've only seen those 5 games mentioned in your blog post ever played on the show (Hole in One, Plinko, It's in the Bag, Cliff Hangers, Rage Game), plus the Big Wheel and the Showcase- has anybody seen any others played, or is that their permanent lineup? I would have thought that even a stage show version would have 10 or 15 of the games played on the show.

I agree with you on the doors; although they are part of the show's heritage, the 30th anniversary paint job is almost 10 years old.

Nice to know that a twenty gets you so much after the show; especially considering how much it costs to attend in the first place.

Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

Wikipedia says some versions have used Clock Game, Punch-a-Bunch and Any Number. I dunno how verifiable that is since I'm in the same boat as you.

I bought them at Tix4Tonight instead of directly from Bally's. I think I saved 30% on the price, which made it a lot nicer.

Atlantic City's most recent run with Joey Fatone had returning games (Cliffhangers & Race Game) as well as new ones (Punch-a-bunch, Any Number & Plinko-finally). Just so you know there was a rule many years ago that the Casino couldn't use Plinko because it was considered a game of chance rather than a game of skill. I guess they worked out whatever they needed to work out.

Also there was a plinko board in Bally's lobby where you could take picutres. It was originally roped off, but after the show, people were climbing the stairs and having their picture taken.

I don't think most people would mind paying $20 for photo, shirt & wheel spin. I only did it in Atlantic City because my wife wanted a picture with the host. Though, I do find it kind of dickish that after years of getting free photos, one now has to pay for it.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS
