The format is just Big Money BtC in a box but NPH makes the whole affair seem hip. Savvy move on CBS's part.

Just thinking: Would this make NPH the first openly gay host?
Protecting idiots from themselves just leads to more idiots.

Don't think so; Charles Nelson Reilly did Sweethearts in 1988.

"Openly gay" is a different thing than the wink-wink of a CNR or a Paul Lynde.  There have been quite a few gay game show hosts before CNR.  Merv Griffin, for example.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I would assume that NPH would be the first person who you could unequivocally describe as "openly gay" at the time of hosting a game show.

If you're getting into the "not shouting from the rooftops but not trying to fool anyone" area by including the '80s CNR, then you have to get into whether or not The Mole counts as a game show and the conundrum of sexual identity that is Anderson Cooper.
"It's for £50,000. If you want to, you may remove your trousers."

And why does any of this matter?

Oh, I think it's every bit as relevant a discussion point as "first female host" or "first black host".  I think the very fact that we can talk about it casually speaks volumes.

Please.  Some of my theater friends in NYC would like to have a word with you.

Wow, New York magazine gets it about as wrong as humanly possible:
Quote
Neil Patrick Harris has found his calling — hosting a game show. CBS will premiere Minute to Win It on March 14 with NPH handling hosting duties. The show is based on a successful British show called The Cube, which places contestants in a chamber designed to induce stress where they're challenged to complete tasks for money. When they leave the chamber, NPH will promptly make fun of them.

*facepalm*

This is just ONE of the reasons magazine sales as a whole have fallen!  If they don't tell the truth, they get the story wrong!

Wow... I need to check a picture of Guy Fieri... are they that similar?
