USA and Family Channel Game Shows
« on: November 10, 2005, 03:21:52 PM »
Hi everyone. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and we started reminiscing about when USA and the Family Channel had game shows on their schedules in the late 80's and early 90's. My question is, does anyone know the schedule(s) (I know both networks changed theirs a few times) of what game shows were shown at what times on them, or at least, a site I could go to see them myself? Thanks!

If I may give them a commerical: "Google: Your friend in newsgroup archives".

Lot of familiar names floating around in that thread (including yours truly), in which the "Dark Period" was just starting out as well.

That helps a whole lot! Thanks again.

The USA tapes I have are from 1993, when they had Scrabble, PYL, Patrick Wayne's TTD, 25k and 100k Pyramids, and Sale of the Century. The tapes came from when they were running their "Lucky Day" USA contest with John Davidson in August.

Does anybody happen to know the schedule of the last few years, past 1993, of USA's game shows? I'm not sure if they changed it much after this point, and I don't remember if they gradually removed the shows from their schedule later on, or if it all was gone in one fell swoop...

Actually, in 1994, when "Quicksilver" and "Free 4 All" premiered, there were 9 shows on USA's schedule!  I think "Caesar's Challenge" was added around this time.  This lasted for a few months, and then it was slowly scaled back.  Sometime in 1995 (I remember this because I was in 5th grade at the time), the schedule only had two game shows on it:  "$100K Pyramid" and "Quicksilver," even changing to just "Quicksilver" for a few weeks!  Eventually that same year, the schedule was expanded for about one more year to be the following (All times EST):

2 p.m.:  $100K Pyramid
2:30:  Quicksilver
3:  Press Your Luck
3:30:  Scrabble

The game show lineup sadly left us in 1996 (well, if you really want to stretch and call "Love Connection" and "The Big Date" game shows, I guess you could say it lasted until 1997).

Hope that helps!

Not to nitpick, but it was actually 1995.  I wish it had been 1996; my parents gave me my own VCR in spring of 1996; and I started taping stuff regularly after that; though I don't think I've taped anything for over a year now.

Nay. Twas the early fall of 1995. FAM was still throwing us bones until 1996 with, I believe, The $100,000 Name That Tune and Let's Make A Deal. I think that ended when Home & Family premiered, moving The Waltons to the mornings displacing those games from the Pat Robertson airwaves for time everlasting.

"The Big Date" was a relationship game show, since it was an unjudged competition for a tangible reward.

I didn't say it was any good, just that it was a relationship game show.

So's the Super Bowl.

(Yeah, we've gone over this 4,000 times. My point is, everyone's just better off sticking with "we know one when we see one" instead of Abelling it.)

Were all of those listings for 'Chain Reaction' for the networks own or was the Bill Cullen show rerun as well?

Well USA did show the reruns of the Bill Cullen NBC version of CR, they first aired that version on September 26, 1988 but last reran it on September 15, 1989 but reran it again on September 17, 1990 but last reran it on September 13, 1991 and never reran that version since 9/13/91 because the Lucky Day USA would begin on the following Monday. But someone else had remember the last airing of the NBC Chain Reaction reruns on USA so I'm not an expert on that one.

Irismason has their dates off. USA aired Cullen Chain Reaction from 9/30/85-9/26/86, and the New Chain Reaction(Edwards/Emmons) aired from 9/29/86-12/27/91(was known as $40K CR from 12/31/90-12/27/91)
