Louis Nye had a role on The Beverly Hillbillies as Sonny Drysdale (the Drysdale's son -- duh!). As TBH is probably being rerun somewhere in the world at this very moment, if you catch the right episode(s) you'll catch Louis Nye.

GSN press releases aren't always accurate.  I have a feeling the average fan here knows more about game shows than GSN publicists.

He was for sure in the first season.  just picked up a 10 episode 2-sided Public Domain DVD  set of Hillbillies Episodes for a dollar recently,,He was Elly May's Beau in some of the shows:All first season episodes.  I think he may have been in some color episodes later on.

Or, in this case, Mr. GSN Expert. How can you not know that no episode of IGAS was ever preserved in color?

It's very easy to determine if an IGaS was in color.  CBS did not start telecasting IGaS in color until the fall of 1966.  Anything before that was telecast in B&W, so I would consider it a sure bet that it was not preserved in color.  Even the kinescopes GSN has for the last color season are in B&W.  Had the Nye show been from 66 or 67, I would say it would be possible, but prior to that there was no way it would have been in color.

I think Dave was actually pointing out that it's impossible to say with **100% certainty** that there are no color IGAS tapes preserved anywhere, even if they're just sitting on a forgotten shelf somewhere... and I do have to agree with him.  The one thing I've learned about archiving is that you really never know where or when something's going to turn up.

For instance, one might just as well have made the assumption that there is no way that  any of the Garry Moore IGAS episodes still exist on videotape-- after all, we've never seen one on GSN.  However, you'd end up being very sorry if you took that bet, as I'm pleased to announce that at least one classic episode of the program has now been located in its original format.  And to top it off, it's even a good show!!

So, there's always hope.

Not to belabor the point, but I am speaking specifically about a 1964 Louis Nye guest appearance on IGaS in color.  I don't think we'll find that one if we searched all the salt mines of Kansas, and if I know that then GSN should know that before putting out inaccurate press releases that make the journalists that report the news appear to be in error.

If I had press credentials, I would have picked up the phone and asked the GSN representative why this particular 1964 IGaS happened to be in color, was it colorized or perhaps a prototype for a future color edition? CBS had to see the writing on the wall regarding broadcasting in color and maybe was doing some test shows.  A color IGaS from '64 would be big news in itself. Then again perhaps, the original assumption was correct and it never was in color, and I would have asked if that were the case as well.

When has GSN ever been known for being accurate?  Their message boards are the perfect example of this--usually "news" such as a tribute is not stickied; nor given any special attention.

But others have brought this to their attention--accuracy be damned.
