Beat the Clock Question =D

Who says that B&W Overnight isn't being watched? :)

Anyway, now we're past the Roxanne days, I assume...so my question is where exactly in the GSn are we at right now, and when does the HUGE jackpot stunts begin? I'm talking about the stunts that started off at $5,000 with that dramatic music and the darkening of the studio.

While I'm talking about this, paging Mister Klauss. Mister Klauss, do you still have that old clip that was on your website about....oh....five years ago with all the BtC stunts that were won in one month? Thanks, buddy. :)
-Jason Hernandez; aka "Dimples"

Tomarken: "...somebody else could do this job!"

Rod Roddy: "Yes, I'm afraid that's true."

~Rod making a joke after Peter complains that it's Labor Day and he shouldn't be working on Press Your Luck.

When this bonus stunt is won, the next show will be when the Super Bonus Stunt is inaugurated. Without giving away an outcome, I'll just say it'll happen this summer sometime if the shows continue to be presented each late Sat and late Sun without skips or interruptions. By the way, it starts at $10000 climbing $1000 per miss and every couple who goes through the $200 clock gets to try it. I'll say no more as some of you are seeing the Beat The Clock for the first time and I don't wish to spoil anything.

Since I don't have GSN anymore, is that also the point where the sponsorship changes from Sylvania to...whatever the second sponsor was?

Fresh is the replacement sponsor. Everyone wears their little flower lapels because they're all feeling "fresh as a daisy". That's when the theme song becomes Bicycle Built For Two. That had me laughing harder than the music to Love Me, Love Me Not. Plus, I missed the mouse.
The sponsor change doesn't come for a bit later. Sylvania hangs in there for the Super Bonus era for a little while.

In fact, on the show where the Super Bonus is finally won, Bud mentions indirectly in his opening that Sylvania and Fresh are paying off the Super Bonus jackpot, but that new sponsor Hazel Bishop won't, so if no one wins it on the week's show, the stunt and jackpot are retired and a new stunt would premiere next week at the default jackpot amount.  Turned out to be an unhappy evening at Sylvania and Fresh.

Not quite as bad as all that (in fact, maybe a good thing for Sylvania).  As I recall, the deal was, if nobody won the Super Bonus that night, Sylvania and Fresh agreed to donate the jackpot amount to charities.  They never do say how much of the jackpot that was won was paid off by Sylvania (presumably, if any of it was, it would be whatever the jackpot was at the time of the sponsor switch).  Of course, had they given the money to charities, they could write it off as a charitable contribution.  Then again, isn't giving the money to the winning couple a business expense?

The fact that Sylvania was even mentioned, however, makes it sound like there was only one Super Bonus Stunt, which grew for almost a year (it was over $60,000 when it was won, wasn't it?).

I'd like to see Pfizer try to write their Viagra sponsorship in NASCAR off as a "business expense".

There were at least two. There was the one with the stacked cups atop the balloon and the eternal SBS with the fishing rod and the wooden dowel and the silly hat.

And it seems to me that it was faster than a year--since the Super Bonus Stunt was played every time a couple got the first two stunts, didn't it go up *every* time it was played?  On most shows, they could get in two or three couples playing both stunts and almost all of them got to the scrambled phrase board.  (Remember that this is picked up while half asleep at 3 a.m., since I was in the crib when the shows first aired.)  The Super Bonus payoff show did air as a Game of the Week back when SNB&W was still around.

Yas. Typically, that SBS jackpot would climb in excess of $10K every month. So Sylvania and later Fresh took their daisies and headed for the hills.

UPDATE: Just a few minutes before typing this on early Monday (8/1) the last old bonus was knocked off at $2100, and Bud plugged the new Super Bonus. So late next Saturday/early Sunday (8/7) will be the first SBS show.
