During the many periodic 'game show booms,' it may have been easy to confuse one host with another; particularly if one or more hosts had the same first name. For example.....

In the '50s, there were plenty of Jacks (Bailey, Barry, Narz, Smith); several Johns/Johnnys (Daly, Carson, Gilbert, King); and about three Bills (Cullen, Leyden, Wendell).

The '60s had several Bobs/Roberts (Barker, Kennedy, Clayton, Eubanks, joined in the next decade by Van and Hilton).

You had an abundance of Jims in the '70s (Lange, McKrell, Peck, Perry) and at the same time there were some fellas named Richard/Dick (Clark, Dawson, Enberg, Martin).

In the '80s and mostly the '90s, we saw more than one host either named Pat (Sajak, Bullard, Finn, Wayne); or Chris (Hardwick, Harrison, Jagger).

So, think about all this the next time someone asks you something like, "Wasn't it Jack BAILEY who hosted Juvenile Jury?"

So what you're saying is that a lot of people who hosted game shows had common first names.

I have yet to learn that someone's confused Blake Emmons with Blake Pickett.

Well, I guess if you can confuse Buzz Aldrin with Buzz Lucan...

How about the eleventy billion people who confuse Chris Lemon and Chris Clementson?

Another question that could be asked is "What is the most common name for a game show host?"  Were there more Bobs, Jims or Dicks?

The 80s also had a mini-resurgence of Bills: the ending of the Cullen era and pretty much the only Rafferty era.

What about initials?  I seem to see BC as the most commonly used initials for hosts and recurring panelists (first and last names, unless middle names were commonly used, like John Charles Daly): Bill Cullen, Bud Collyer, Bert Convy, and Bennett Cerf.

And fostergray82: someone else watches "Conan O'Brien", I see. :-)

In the '90s, there happened  to be 5 Bob's(Barker, Bergen, Eubanks, Goen, Saget), and there were 2 David's(Ruprecht and Sidoni).
