"The Men of GSN"....
« on: April 02, 2005, 09:44:51 AM »
During some of the promos during the credit crunching of Card Sharks at 9am (that is *NOT* a bash at GSN, I don't know what else to call it!), the one promo had women on their lounge chairs sighing over "Richard", and "Chuck"......And then some quick clips of shows like Feud and Love Connection....Then it said "The men of GSN", weekdays 9am-3pm....

Always nice when classics get a little plug..

EDIT:
Commercial came on again.

"I saw Gene again yesterday, it was good."
"Babs, how are you and Alex doing?"
"He shows up every day, right on time. Reliable. I like that in a man."
"Oh and Deb, you still have a thing for Chuck?"
"Oh yeah, Richard too, actually."
"Who doesn't have a thing for Richard?"

Then they all chuckle and sigh.

"Richard, Alex, Chuck..the men from GSN, on the all-new daytime lineup. Weekdays 9 to 3, on GSN"

It's strange because Alex and Chuck were already on before the schedule change.  lol

They should have put something about 100,000 Pyramid, Rafferty CS, and the Passwords coming on the station.  Those are by far the biggest changes schedule wise.  Everything else has been on the channel in a different slot for a while.

I'm sorry, but you've just GOTTA find something to complain about, don't you? Some of these shows haven't been on in years, yet you're complaining about a 30-sec. ad?

I see your point about Rafferty, but Convy was once a known celebrity.

And when would that have been? When he hosted 3rd Degree?

His stint on The Late Summer/Early Fall Bert Convy Variety Show did it for me. And who could forget his dramatic turn on The Untouchables? Not to mention The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. You think people really watched that teleflick for Jane Seymour and Ellen Bry?

I don't know, Don, for me it was "It's not Easy". . Simply a sitcom that with Bert at the helm should have had the lifespan that such shows as"Cheers" and "M*A*S*H" did. :)

So true the words you speak this first day of Daylight Saving (not Savings) Time for 2005. Certainly, Pat O'Brien is nothing more than the Bert Convy of the 21st Century.

Except for the drugs, alcohol, and groping, anyway. No one knows how to be Pat O'Brien quite like Pat O'Brien.

And he shall answer for his sins.
Back to Romeo Convy now, that perm is to die for.
Now consider. All of those Allen Ludden episodes that GSN could've played last weekend for the Password marathon. Not shown. The same for that good number of Tom Kennedy Password Plus shows. Not shown. GSN recognizes the greatness of The Bert. There will be other honors. And I shall watch for them.

Isn't this a commercial for the shows?  Not the people who host them.   The point is to get as many people interested as they can in the new schedule.   The best way to do this is to advertise the upcoming NEW shows coming on.  Who really cares that MG or FF is going to be shown an additional time a day.  No one cares that Love Connection is still on in the mornings.  So what is the point of the commercial?    Yes you can sit back, enjoy the shows, and think the commercials don't matter, but in the end the ratings determine what is on the channel.

Maybe people would care if they saw shows coming back that haven't been seen in forever in some cases.  100k Pyramid which has been gone for almost a year.  Or Rafferty's CS.  Or the Passwords.  Or TTTT.

But no... instead they spend their time advertising the *new lineup* with MG, FF, and Love Connection clips.   Brilliant.
