Yuletide music question

This is a question about an instrumental version of "Sleigh Ride." As heard on the end of the last ABC ep. of "TNG" and an Xmas ep. of MG '90 as well (I think) as well as heard on many oldies stations around the December month. So, I'm assuming that this song has been released commerically. With this in mind, I wonder who's the artist/group that did this version of the song?

It has more game show connections than you may think...it was composed by Leroy Anderson; who also did the theme to either "What's My Line" [Rollercoaster] or "I've Got a Secret". [Plink, Plank, Plunk]

That'd be Plink, Plank, Plunk. Rollercoaster was a Milton DeLugg (Gong Show, etc.) affair.

The latter would be correct.  "Sleigh Ride" has been performed by many different groups, but of course the original Leroy Anderson version is the most well-known.

And speaking of "Sleigh Ride," it's been used at the end of TPIR, MG (all versions except '98), and other game shows.

There's at least one site (although I don't know how accurate it is) that suggests that Anderson's first composition, "Syncopated Clock," was used as the "think music" cue for FJ! (back in the Fleming era)  Whether that's true or not I can't say for certain, but it's certainly an appropriate piece of music to use (even if it's not the conventional music we'd think of).

I'm more partial to Debbie Gibson's jazzy version myself, but I might want to look for the Anderson version.

My copy's on the Ultimate Christmas, Volume 4 CD from Collectables (several radio stations have branded the CD as their own, but it's gettable through Collectables' website).

Even if I'm not one to officially celebrate the holiday, I do rather enjoy Xmas tunes on the CD player as we get closer to Santa's big day.

According to The Definitive Source on this, leroy-anderson.com, Syncopated Clock wasn't even Leroy's first composition. Jazz Legato and Jazz Pizzicato were both written in 1938 - Syncopated Clock wasn't written 'til 1945.

I like Debbie's version myself, and it's on "A Very Special Christmas 2".  Leroy's version was released as a single, and occasionally it pops up on e-bay.  I'm still looking for a copy of the single myself.

Leroy's version was also used on many other game shows besides "Newlywed Game".  I'm pretty sure "Wheel of Fortune" used it a few times in the '70s, and I think "Price is Right" used it for a Showcase cue at least once.

Too bad there are no episodes with that in the trade curcuit.  Just about every year from the late '70s-mid '80s they'd have a Christmas home viewer showcase where they'd display many great prizes, and award them to the viewer who came closest (without going over) on mailed-in post cards.  Each presentation would take several minutes in a show and they were beatifully done.

I'd love to see one of those again!

GSN did air one in 1998; I remember watching it before I left for college...It had a prize on it I definitely remember - was like a 3-in-1 TV set, with one large tube and 2 smaller ones....

I remember being surprised with the showcase at that point as well, because instead of cutting away to commercial after the second showcase bid was made, Bob did the winner of the showcases right away.....Of course, that was in the interest of time because they had to do the home viewer winner.
