Looks like GSN should have stay with an all game show format!
I wonder what Richie will do with the lineup?  lol

For the last time, the idea is no longer feasable.
Get the damn idea out of your heads.

Well, if an all studio-game format is no longer viable, then GSN may be a dead network walking because they're about to be one of three networks trying to play in the reality game biz. Some are thinking FX overpaid for Fear Factor reruns... but if a bidding war gets created over every reality show then this could turn ugly.

The article says, "The US already has two reality cable channels".  Assuming GSN is considered to be one of those, what do they consider the other one to be?
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

I believe there's one currently on DISH Network.

Maybe they mean Reality Central, perhaps?

Although it is still struggling to get on the air.

Don's correct--there is a Reality TV on Dish.

And Reality Central has the same problem that all cable channels have that don't have a connection to one of the big boys--it's hard to get carriage without either ownership by one of the big MSOs or one of the corporate giants.  That's exactly why Sony let Liberty buy into GSN--to increase carriage.

With the power of having established cable networks, a sizeable-enough library of compatible programs and suppliers that almost deal exclusively with them (like Rocket Science Laboratories) *and* almost-guaranteed placement on the nation's largest DSS system, Fox Reality could easily chew up and spit out Reality Central--and provide tough competition for GSN, although GSN has the advantage of being out there first.

But we'll have to see if Fox Reality actually does make it on the air--I'm not sure that DirecTV by itself is enough to launch a new channel and Ailes wants his FNC flanker channels to be considered, as well.

Of note: "Reality TV" on Dish Net has no reality game programming. It's basically a channel full of real-life drama CAUGHT ON TAPE!!

Nobody in the "real" world considers GSN a reality network. Today, for instance, GSN is showing exactly one reality show, Average Joe, and one talent contest, Star Search. All the other programming hours are traditional studio game shows. Only the hardest-core game show fans would consider that a "reality" lineup.

The other two reality netlets (can't resist Variety-speak) are Reality Central and Reality TV. Neither has gotten wide carriage, due to problems others have discussed on this thread:

Well, if somebody disagrees with fact, what's the problem in...pointing out the facts? The two reality networks referred to in the FT article were Reality TV and Reality Central, not GSN.

And "insertations" sounds kinda kinky.

Oh, now you changed it to "nuiances."

Oh, now you deleted all the comments.

Nevermind.

Here's my speculation on this:

What if GSN (which already has a sort of "reality" programming in prime-time) were to merge with a cable channel devoted exclusively to "reality" programming?

They'd have a new channel I'd call "RAGS-TV" (Reality and Game Show TV)!

(And then they could do this plug: "Want to see people get rich in 60 minutes or less?  Call your cable or satellite provider and get RAGS-TV!")
