What exactly is the '80s Pyramids
« on: June 28, 2004, 08:54:30 PM »
I have some questions I'm gonna ask you about '80s Pyramids.

1)What's the '80s Pyramids all about?

2)What were the dollar amounts on the Winners Circle board?

3)Who were the announcers of '80s Pyramids and were they permanent voicers?

4)Does Red morph into Blue everytime?

5)Was the $5,000 bonus the only bonus available during the championships?

I'm sorry, but this has GOT to be a troll.

The 80s Pyramids were all about stacking stone blocks into trianglular buildings to win $30 million dollars.

teh Benjamins, y0.

2)What were the dollar amounts on the Winners Circle board?
They were derivated by running a Fibonacci series through an inverse logarithmic hash.

3)Who were the announcers of '80s Pyramids and were they permanent voicers?
Dick Hertz and Seymour Butts were the two best known. To the best of our knowledge they had permanent voices, yes.

4)Does Red morph into Blue everytime?
No. On alternate Sundays it morphs into a lovely shade of chartreuce.

5)Was the $5,000 bonus the only bonus available during the championships?
No. There was also a $1,350 cash-back bonus available at participating Volkswagen dealerships.

I don't understand what you mean with questions 1 and 4.

2. $50-$100-$150-$200-$250-$300 for 1982-88 versions.

3. The 80s Pyramid really had no permanent announcer: Johnny Gilbert, Bob Hilton, Charlie O'Donnell, Jerry Bishop, Charlie Tuna, Rod Roddy, Jack Clark, and Dean Goss all did announcing turns on the 1982-88 version.

5. Yes, the $5K tiebreaker bonus was the only maingame bonus available during $100K tournaments(1985-88 version, 1991 version had no tiebreaker bonus available)

I find the definition to be loose, but usually is someone who consistantly makes nonsensical posts.  Using a oft-used ATGS statement as an example, saying "how wuz hat putato played? did bil kulin toss a putato at thuh kontestants?  tat wuld be a funi" is a troll post because it's plain stupid and makes no sense, even though it applies to a game show.

Iris' posts rarely make sense, and this last one is a doozy.  That's why someone asserted that (s)he was a troll.

BTW, you can always delete any post you make by selecting the delete button on the top of your post.  Apologizing about it is unnessary.

Your benevolent dictators consider a troll someone who *deliberately* makes annoying or nonsensical posts in order to upset other posters.  The fact that some of you get annoyed and/or upset at some members who don't happen to fit your personal standards of behavior is really a far bigger problem for us that dealing with actual, Dick Tater-like trolls.

You guys HAVE to remember that some of our members are very young, and some of our members are, frankly, just not as smart as you.  They're here to learn, even if their actual questions might be poorly formed and might seem stupid to you.  I can understand you not caring for them, and we'll all dance a happy little dance when the "Ignore User" feature comes on line, but until then, remember this:  These guys will be dealt with as trolls if and when WE think they're trolls, and abusive posts aimed at them will also be dealt with accordingly.

In the meantime, as I've said before, we all have the ability to "ignore user" any time we want.  Most of our hundreds of daily visitors do that.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

The $5,000 bonus in case of a perfect game 21-21 tie, was the only bonus in the tournaments on the $100,000 version

All right. Some of you are gonna have to forgive me for being Zach, and the others of you are gonna have to forgive me for being a nice guy and answering the questions of someone I believe is an innocent fan. So help me Matt and Chris. Iris, here are your answers:

1. The '80s Pyramids were the successful revival of the '70s Pyramids, which I assume you've seen at some time.

2. and 3. See Zach's post below. For 2, the dollar amounts were the same for the $25,000 and $100,000 shows.

4. You're talking about the "scrim" behind the board. It's a big piece of fabric with lights behind it to give it its color. During gameplay, (both the front game And Winner's Circle) it was always red. It was blue before and after the Winner's Circle games, and sometimes on the $100,000 shows it would turn purple during the transition.

5. Expanding on Adam's answer, the thinking was that the 7-11 and Mystery 7 (hey, that's me!) would add unecessary tension and complication to the game.

And not to come across wrong, but Iris, we would appreciate knowing a little more about you just to clear up whatever misgivings some members might have. Maybe a little extra info in your member profile would help clear things up.

2)$1.98, $516.32, $712.05, $1,234, $5000, and $8,888

3)Colonel H. Sanders, Rice R. Roni,  Orville Reddenbacher, and Lee P.O. Nails were the regular announcers.

4)Only when drunk.

5)Nes.  I mean Yo.....Err

I'm not going to post any funny answers to your questions, Iris, but I'm going to ask a favor that someone else did:

Would you please go to the "Let's Meet Our Players" section and fill out some info about yourself? We don't need a life story, or anything sensitive, we just want to know who we're talking to....
