MG 76
« on: June 23, 2004, 06:08:51 PM »
I'm noticing that during the "surgical gloves" question, MG76 is using an interesting an interesting cue, which I'm assuming wasn't used for long. Matter of fact, it sounds a lot like it was lifted from Tattletales. Can anyone confirm?

MG76 or MG78?  I thought I noticed a different cue during MG78 today, kinda like the "cowbell" cue but different.  (Won't see MG76 on tape till later.)

I think the one in '78  was later used as the tie-breaker music on the syndie version. There is an mp3 of it at the Game Show Ultraplex. I quite like it. I think it has a better beat than Cowbell.

I think there are two version of the '76 theme. One is quicker, peppier, has chiming bells in the background, and is used more often. The more seldom used slower version sounds like its in a lower pitch, and has more guitar.

I'm not sure as to what the source of the cue actually is or what it is.

I did find it in a group that I'm a member of, and they said it was used as tie-breaker music.  Having heard it a few times, it doesn't sound like the tie-breaker cue.  As I recall, the tie-breaker music was a straight-on regular cue.

It was 76 (the 6 pm airing). Gene mentioned Betty White's still being on The Mary Tyler Moore Show...by 78 I think she had her own sitcom. But enough of the mindless trivia. :-)

FWIW, they re-played the cue during the last or next-to-last question. Hearing it a second time made me think it sounded like the TT theme mixed with porno music. :-P

In early MG76, several new cues were tried out.  All were gone within a few weeks, except the one with the alternating high and low bells in the background that was indeed used on "today's" show (mid April).  When they stopped using that one, I can't say but it was gone by late Jan. 78 (where the current MG78 run started early this year).

The MG78 cue I mentioned (kinda like the "cowbell" cue but different) is indeed the "MatchGameTieCue" at Game Show Ultraplex.  I don't think I'd heard it before, even on the Syndie shows.  Right now this run is in October 78.

Wasn't it reported that one of these cues was from "The Moneymaze"?
