ABC's 20/20 special on Regis

DjohnsonCB:
I went to Hulu and watched the 20/20 tribute to Regis Philbin since I didn't know ABC was going to air such a show till I found out too late by watching "Extra" at 1:05 AM CT.  When they got around to WWTBAM, they said it was the first game show ever to offer a million-dollar prize.  Evidently, they either forgot about--or never heard of--The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime with Jim Lange.

PYLdude:
A well made, nice tribute to one of television’s stalwarts, and all you notice is the one easily understandable error?

A technicality, but that show's top prize was an annuity. WWTBAM was the first show to offer that amount in a lump sum.

Also the first show to offer a million dollars to one person.

And I may be wrong, but didn't the million on COAL feature a few prizes as well?

It was all cash in the first season, but in the second it was $900,000 cash and assorted prizes.
