BUZZR FAQ page
« on: March 16, 2020, 03:54:38 PM »
Buzzr included a link to this in their newsletter that went out today. Hopefully it clears up questions for people on things like why they have so many reruns, why they don't show TPIR, and why shows don't start exactly on the hour or half hour.

The newsletter also mentioned that the additions of Bzzz and Concentration were a result of the survey they conducted. Apparently Concentration was in their top five requested shows. They're working on more specials and marathons, and they're trying to expedite the process of getting new episodes into their rotations.

Reading it made me wonder: are MGHS rights co-owned by MGM or CBS?

Q. The Price is Right is owned by Fremantle, so why isn’t it on air?

A.  True! Fremantle does own The Price Is Right, but it currently remains exclusive to Fremantle's broadcast partner and because BUZZR supports all of Fremantle's existing relationships, The Price Is Right does not currently air on BUZZR.

So why put it on the survey?
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I’d imagine it’s so they can use the data as leverage in case there becomes an opportunity for the rights to not be exclusive.

Perhaps. Knowing "The Tiffany Network", that's probably not happening until sometime in the 22nd Century, the earliest.

Can somebody jog my memory as to why the rights lapsed on GSN about 20 years ago? Was it cost or Barker's ego? I honestly don't remember.

Now celebrating his 21st season on GSF!

The reason I distinctly remember reading, but I forget who shared: the papers remained on the desk unsigned by the deadline.

So Fremantle owns the show, however...

CBS has pull in the studio the show is taped in
CBS has pull for the lot space where the games and prizes are stored
CBS has pull for the time slot the show airs in
CBS has pulled rank over Fremantle and hired Drew Carey
CBS apparently has exclusive rights to Price
CBS apparently negotiates salary with Drew Carey

Wow, that's a lot of pull

My guess is that Goodson-Todman signed an agreement directly with CBS that precedes (and supersedes) any sale of the back catalogues of shows.

That's it exactly.  They literally forgot to renew the contract.

It's not something they'd probably answer, but you have to wonder how they pulled off MGHS and both recent versions of Concentration when GSN couldn't.

One would think there is a time that some rights holders realize that a little bit of revenue from a 40-year-old game show is better than zero revenue.

Also wonder if it's easier to get broadcast rerun rights than cable rerun rights, since technically Buzzr is a broadcast channel.
