"Blockbusters" returning to UK as "comedy reboot"
« on: December 03, 2018, 10:56:01 AM »
New episodes of "Blockbusters" are coming to Britain in 2019, but as a "comedy reboot" for Comedy Central UK.

Two seasons have been ordered with Dara O'Briain, the longtime host of the BBC2 panel show "Mock The Week", tapped to emcee.

I'm uneasy about this, since I don't see the format adapting too well to comedy routines. Then again, I do love 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, so I'll give it a shot.
It was Bob Barker. He was eating a bologna and cheese-ball sandwich.

I've very recently seen casting for Blockbusters. I wonder how they'll do a comedy-leaning game show with civilian contestants.

I'm honestly imagining something akin to the current version of The Joker's Wild with Snoop Dogg, where the "questions" are closer to "pick which of these options the prerecorded celebrity liked" then to actual trivia.

I can't believe I'm comparing Dara O'Briain to Snoop Dogg, but there you go.

I have a feeling the Brits will keep it cheeky without immediately going for the obvious punchline, or the one with the lowest common denominator. Seems like spelling out the joke is something only we Americans do. :P

Now celebrating his 21st season on GSF!

I’d love to see Blockbusters return here in the States, as a high school and/or college quiz show — as was done successfully in England for so long.
