Who's hosted more?
« on: March 25, 2018, 12:46:08 PM »
I have a general trivia question for all the game show scholars in the house: Who holds the record for hosting one game show consecutively the longest? Now I'm asking in terms of both seasons & episodes.

In terms of seasons, I want to say it's Bob Barker's 35 seasons of doing The Price Is Right. However, I think Sajak is closing in on breaking that record (if he hasn't already) for Wheel. As for episodes...Well, I don't know how many exact episodes Barker did of Price (I know it's over 6,000), but I remember reading somewhere that Alex Trebek might've has clocked in more Jeopardy shows, so he might be the answer that question.

My memory is a little foggy. Hopefully, you guys can help me sort it out.

Depends on if you are adding in daytime/nighttime/syndicated shows.  Bob hosted 6,728 daytime episodes of Price (6,731 minus the three Dennis James hosted in 1974).  Add 105 if you want to include the nighttime syndicated show, 6 in 1986 primetime, and 24 primetime shows past 2001, for a total of 6,863.

Adding all runs together (daytime/nighttime) Pat Sajak has that record obliterated.

Main-runs only I think Alex has over 7,000 episodes since 1984.

Mac McGarry holds the "seasons" record by far with Washington DC's It's Academic, having hosted it for the first 50 seasons (1961-2011; see here for more).

Bob hosted 6,728 daytime episodes of Price (6,731 minus the three Dennis James hosted in 1974).
Dennis sub-hosted four episodes, not three, but Bob's grand total is still 6,863 due to the 25th-Anniversary Special in 1996.
