Another Buzzr "Lost and Found" stunt
« on: August 10, 2017, 05:14:31 PM »
Buzzr is teasing on social media that they're doing another "Lost and Found" stunt in September. They posted about it last week, but the posts were deleted shortly thereafter for some reason. Now they're back up again.

Buzzr's newsletter says it will run September 11-15 and include things never seen on Buzzr before like Trivia Trap and Richard Simmons' Dream Maker (?!)

A buzzer and a bell? What could this mean? That’s right, folks: Lost and Found is back September 11th until September 15th. BUZZR has searched every nook and cranny of its vaults to bring you some hidden gems, including never-before-seen programming like Trivia Trap with Bob Eubanks and Richard Simmons' Dream Maker. Stay tuned for more details!

The newsletter also says they've been listening to their viewers and are promising new episodes and new series on the lineup this fall.

We’ve been listening to what you have to say; and, we’re doing something about it. Coming this Fall, we are adding more episodes and new game shows. Keep an eye out for updates and details from BUZZR in the coming weeks.

Apparently not, unless one of their viewers is Richard Simmons.

There was a very short lived daytime talk/variety series in Fall '99 with that title (there's some footage on Youtube and some info in the B&C archives on AmericanRadioHistory).  If it's the same series, it'd be easily the most unusual thing to turn up on Buzzr to-date for at least two reasons: It wasn't a game show largely, and the 1999 series was a Tribune Entertainment project - which as far as I know isn't an asset FremantleMedia's come into acquisition of.

Of course, it's also entirely possible the title was used for more than one project - however, it's the only one a search of the Broadcasting/B&C archives turned up anything on.

Here's one example clip of the 1999 series - an adoptee meets her birth mother for the very first time:

If you're up for a laugh, I'll follow up Chelsea's post with fake Richard Simmons (played by Will Sasso) in MAD TV's send-up of the forgotten talk show.

Nope, that's definitely the one.

Reiterating Chelsea, my question is how did it come to be in Buzzr's possession in the first place?

Back in 2001, Fremantle began a partnership with Tribune. They shared profits on what shows were airing at that time (Family Feud, To Tell the Truth and Card Sharks), as well as collaborated on new shows. That may have also involved acquiring shows that Tribune had produced previously. I personally believe Dream Maker is no more a game show than Fantasy was, but because people can win something, there it is. I'd rather watch an hour of Mark Goodson ironing his underwear, but hey.

Yep. For a few years, Tribune was also one of the actual packagers for those three, along with Celebrity Name Game.

It was pretty much the same thing, except Fantasy had a few game portions.

IIRC, Dreammaker had a game show related episode one involving Wheel.  Hopefully they plan to air that!

Based on his fill-in work when they couldn't get substitute emcees, he'd probably make it watchable.

Here's an article from a Seattle paper about a month before the show launched. Also, as an aside, an interview with Louie Anderson regarding both Simmons' show and his then-project, which also launched that fall.

Yep...I think it was two women who wanted to see a taping. Not much of a dream, but what do ya do?

I'm reminded of this comic strip, for some reason...
It was Bob Barker. He was eating a bologna and cheese-ball sandwich.
