TPIR Microphone Question
« on: May 24, 2016, 01:25:32 AM »
Hey, Hi & Hello,

I have some little questions about the mics used on TPIR in the 80s.

Starting in the early 80s, the handle on Bob's ECM-51mic was modified. It looked like the handle was just wrapped in black heat shrink. The black seemed to extend up from the handle slightly and up the tube part a bit. Does anyone know when this happened and why, or was this a newer model? It also appeared again a few times in the 90's the rare times he did not use the ECM-510 (most notiably on the Take Two clip on many specials).

Also, when all the contestants row and showcase mics were changed to the black ones, were the ECM-51's just painted black, or was that a different model as well? Was there a black version being offered at the time?

And...(last one). Later in the 80's Bob's mic changed again, to the silver one used before black 510. I have never seen a clear close up of it that I could get much detail, but in some shots it looked like a silver version of the ECM-510 as the handle looked a bit thicker. Was this the case or was it the ECM-51 with another customized handle?

Thanks.

You may be seeing modifications made in-house at CBS Television City.
