Live Game Night to Air on NBC New Year's Eve
« on: December 09, 2015, 05:42:06 PM »
An interesting New Year's plan to be sure: NBC has scheduled a special live episode of Hollywood Game Night hosted by Andy Cohen (retitled New Year's Eve Game Night) to air 10 PM on December 31st. Two more celebrities will take the usual civilian place for an all-star edition. The special eminates from 30 Rock in New York.

That is indeed news I can use. I will be interested to see how the dynamic is different when there's nobody that you're specifically playing for. Reading the article I didn't see anything about a charitable donation or any prize to speak of other than domination over the other team.

Aw. I was hoping that maybe since Andy was hosting that'd mean Jane would play, but reading the article, it seems that she just can't make it on New Years Eve. I feel like it's been a while since there's been a good "host plays the game" episode of a show. That is, unless, Jane has played the game before and I just missed it.
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

I have a feeling the person on the bleep button will be getting quite the workout during the hour, especially if they let them get a few early New Year's toasts in before the show...

If you're interested in seeing what it might look like I recommend Celebrity Food Fight on Food Network--it is a food themed variation on the theme, with Andy Richter hosting two teams that play for bragging rights and nothing more.

Did anybody (else) watch this? If so, congratulations on surviving.

I'd say that's a fair statement.

All I can say is that I have a newfound respect for both Jane Lynch's hosting and celebrity-wrangling abilities and the HGN editors.

Starting January 7, the show comes back for a new season. IMO, the New Year's Eve show was - meh.

HGN is on Tuesdays at 8 pm EST, for now, anyway.
