GSN Pays Tribute to Jim Lange Wednesday Morning
« on: February 28, 2014, 05:27:18 PM »
From a press release:

GSN (Game Show Network) announced today that the network will pay tribute to legendary game show host Jim Lange, with a marathon of Lange’s most memorable episodes as host of THE DATING GAME. Jim Lange passed away on Tuesday at the age of 81. The eight-episode marathon will air on Wednesday March 5th, from 8 am until 12 noon ET on GSN.

The Jim Lange Marathon will feature episodes of THE DATING GAME from the show’s original 1960s and 1970s runs on ABC and in syndication, featuring guests such as Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Tom Selleck, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Martin.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but The Dating Game has never been on the regular schedule, due to music rights issues.

It had a regular slot at the network's launch.

You're wrong.

I remember seeing The Dating Game on weekends when I first got GSN, sometime around 1999/2000.  It was on 7 times per weekday during "The Dark Period", and I would put dollars to donuts that those shows weren't Brad Sherwood's shows from the previous year.  I don't think GSN has aired The All New Dating Game, outside of Game of the Week shows from 2000.  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.tv.game-shows/t1G22s2n6Mc

My next question would be where VN got his info from.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

The show used quite a bit of pre-existing copyrighted music. Especially from Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

That's why I was under the impression they may not have shown it regularly.

Incorrect.  GSN has aired every version of The Dating Game with the exceptions of the 1996-97 season with Brad Sherwood and the Jeff MacGregor years.  It was on the regular schedule from the time the network launched until I believe a few months after Rich Cronin took over as President in 2001 (corrections welcome, of course).

my guess is it rhymes with bass. Or maybe a bowling alley.

Yes, The Dating Game used to be a fixture of GSN's lineup, though toward the end it seemed it was mostly the celebrity episodes that aired.

There's a subtle but important difference in your sentence construction, Vahan. The way you put it initially, it sounded as if you were repeating a fact you had heard. It's perfectly okay to speculate as you did and ask the board at large, but that wasn't clear at first.

As nice as it is that he's admitting it (and that's a real big step) it would be an improvement if he didn't commit the foul in the first place.

Insofar as he actually did admit it as opposed to justifying doing it, sure, but other than that we concur wholly.

Too bad they can't show the Laboriously Titled Word Game Starring Jim Lange, as Dating Game is a poor vehicle to show off what Jim can do. (Bullseye isn't that much better and Name That Tune was awful). Lifetime moved at a good clip, was a fun word game and I thought Jim handled it well.
