« on: July 18, 2013, 04:10:53 PM »

I was actually curious about how many places Wheel has shot over the years...and here\'s what I came up with:

Seattle

Portland

San Francisco

San Diego

Las Vegas

Denver

Phoenix

Dallas

Houston

Chicago

Nashville

Atlanta

New Orleans

Miami

Orlando

Charleston SC

Norfolk VA (The Aircraft carrier week, right)

DC

Pittsburgh

Columbus

Philadelphia

NYC

Boston

Hawaii

Norfolk was indeed aboard an aircraft carrier (the Eisenhower)

2 weeks, actually, including the \'97 season premiere week with union members.  That\'s the Columbus trip to which Ben refers.

ETA:  Or maybe it was 3 weeks.  The season premiere week was taped on a Friday.  I was there that Saturday for several tapings of the 2nd week.  I don\'t recall if they taped a third week of shows on Sunday.  I\'m heavily leaning towards just two weeks in C-bus.

I wonder why they never have come here to St. Louis, MO. The show has aired faithfully on the same time and channel for nearly 30 years.

I\'ve had at least one person confirm that they did shows on location at the Ohio State Fair just before the syndie version started. MikeK: The Ohio State Fair weeks that began Season 15 indeed ran for two weeks.

I\'m pretty sure I\'ve nailed all the road shows on my wiki, so here goes:

* Atlanta (Fox Theater, May and July 1996 — no, that\'s not a typo, they really did do new episodes in July that year)

* Boston (Wang Center, May 1993; Boston Convention & Exhibit Center, November 2009)

* Charleston (Charleston Area Convention Center, February 2007)

* Chicago (Arie Crown Theater, September/October 1991; Navy Pier, May 2002; Navy Pier, April/May 2008)

* Columbus (Ohio State Fair, 1983 and September 1997)

* Dallas (Fair Park, October/November 1994; Convention Center, May 2001; Nokia Center, October/November 2006)

* Denver (Temple Hoyne Buell Theater, November 1997; Colorado Convention Center, May 2006)

* Fort Lauderdale (Broward County Convention Center, January/February 2006)

* Hollywood (Disney/MGM Studios, April and May 1994)

* Houston (George R. Brown Convention Center, May 1998)

* Kansas City (Bartle Hall, May 2005)

* Las Vegas (Las Vegas Hilton in February 1998, November 1998, February 2002, and February 2005; several Venetian and Palazzo episodes throughout Season 27 and 28)

* Miami (James L. Knight Center, February 1994; same place, November 2001)

* Nashville (Grand Ole Opry House, February 2003)

* New Orleans (Louisiana Superdome, February 2000; Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, November 2005; Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, May 2011)

* New York City (Radio City Music Hall, November 1988; Madison Square Garden, November 1999; Radio City Music Hall, November 2003; Radio City Music Hall, November 2007; Madison Square Garden, April/May 2013)

* Norfolk (Dwight D. Eisenhower hangar deck, May 1995)

* Orlando (Disney World, February 1990; MGM Studios, October 1991; Disney World, April/May 1992; Disney World, December 1993; Disney World, February 1995; outdoors at SeaWorld, March/April 2009)

* Philadelphia (Convention Hall & Civic Center, November 1992; Apollo of Temple, May 1999; Wachovia Center, November 2004/January 2005)

* Phoenix (Blockbuster Desert Sky Pavilion, February 1997; Dodge Theatre, February 2004)

* Pittsburgh (Benedum Center, September 1998)

* Portland (Oregon Convention Center, April 2012)

* San Diego (Convention Center, May 1997; Convention Center, April 2003; Convention Center, April/May 2007)

* San Francisco (Palace of Fine Arts, November 1992; Palace of Fine Arts, November 1996; Moscone Center, May 2004)

* Seattle (Washington State Convention & Trade Center, November 1995; same place, November 2002)

* Waikoloa (outdoors, in front of the Hilton Waikoloa Village, February 1996; same place, February 1999; same place again, February 2001; same place again, November 2008)

It was in recognition of the Summer Olympics, held in (wait for it) Atlanta that year.

* Newport News Norfolk (Dwight D. Eisenhower hangar deck, May 1995)

Fixed.

Why would they be at the Ohio State Fair in 1983, for the first syndie tapings? Was it for a test-run of episodes before the show could begin stripping on the 19th of September?

^ That would be my first guess. Seems back in the a.t.g-s days, someone heard Pat corroborate the info during a commercial break at the 1997 Ohio tapings. He said that the 1983 tapings went poorly. (I can\'t find the post at the moment, though.)

I find it interesting that something like this would\'ve slipped into the dustbin.

I'm pretty sure I've nailed all the road shows on my wiki, so here goes:
* Anaheim (Disneyland, September 1991).

Seems back in the a.t.g-s days, someone heard Pat corroborate the info during a commercial break at the 1997 Ohio tapings. He said that the 1983 tapings went poorly. (I can't find the post at the moment, though.)
I'm not sure if there was anything in the ATGS days, but it was brought up on this forum back in March. Funnily enough, the post above that is you quoting Don Howard stating that WEWS debuted Wheel with said Ohio State Fair episodes.

Should I get off your lawn, TPH? ;)

I find it interesting that something like this would've slipped into the dustbin.
In fairness, based on what That Don Guy said back in 2011, Wheel also did a week specifically for the San Francisco market early in Season 10 while they were taping there. You'd think they would've turned up when GSN aired that season.

Speaking of which, quite a few examples in the above thread are from shows that were aired by USA and/or GSN, which leaves me wondering why they didn't air these market-specific episodes because even though yes, about 99% of viewers wouldn't know who these people are, it's still part of the show's run. Maybe these simply aren't in the full-series packages, as "it makes less sense" as that may be?

I would love a little more firm of an account than the two in that particular thread.

I\'m one of the sources for this information and I remember vividly what Pat said about the shows.

However, seeing how sarcastic Pat can be and for the lack of information known about these episodes, I’ve even began to question if the episodes ever happened.

I’ve emailed both the Columbus Library and the Ohio State Fair to see if they can provide any insight, and I will let you know what I hear.
