Interesting to see Password AND Card Sharks on the schedule at the same time.  The last few years they've alternated the two.

I think it was the "don't think it's too much to ask" sense of entitlement that ground Travis's gears.
Basically I'm tired of the whining of "Why can't we have show X and episodes Y," when the whiner has little grasp on the economics of running a cable network. It would be slightly less off-putting if the words were couched pleasantly, but the intent would still be there.
Well the economics seemed to have worked out in this case.

How nice of them to pull this out. It really brings out hope of them doing something unexpected with other shows in the future.

Another update from Buzzerblog. Both versions of Lingo are leaving GSN. Quite suprising.

Well, that's a surprise!

and episode number 234 of Card Sharks.

Where would that put it, about 1979, perhaps?

What's next? The remainder of the Match Game '75 run? And onto MG '76, even?

Cordially,

My DVR will be rolling next Monday for sure.  Card Sharks should be somewhere in March of 1979, by the way.

For the 108th or so time this year...dafuq?

The end of the world is coming. Got to clean out the vault now.
Honestly, I don't think the vault has a door anymore, and it's not even Christmas yet!

You know the fun thing about this news? USA never aired the premiere week and some other 1983 shows, and I'm pretty sure the second and third episodes don't circulate (I myself have a DVD containing Pilot-1-4-5-7-8-9-10). This package could very well be all the 1983-84 shows GSN hasn't aired yet, and maybe even the 1985-86 shows that follow the end of the 2000s package; the latter might be a longshot, but the fact GSN's going to air new-to-almost-everybody episodes does raise the possibility significantly.

And a bonus: assuming they don't skip anything, Randy West's reign of terror begins on the 25th. :D

/now stop crunching the damn credits

...Aaaand per Randy West's Facebook posting, his 3-day "reign of terror" commences on October 25th, plus the 26th & 29th, for those of you who would like to see his appearances.

You're correct.  The earliest USA episode was sometime in the third week.  The others haven't aired since CBS aired them over 29 years ago.

I guess that means those with PYL episode guides can finally fill in 1983, as there were some missing entries in there.

While I'm glad they're airing from the premiere, those episodes were definately slower than the later episodes.  Hopefully ratings will be good enough for them to keep it on for a while.  You wonder what will happen when they hit the 2/21/84 episode - they could either recycle back to the premiere; jump ahead to Nov 1985, or keep going in sequence through 1984.  Place your bets :)

I can't really imagine GSN splitting their lease between two points in the run so far apart (Feb. 1984 and Nov. 1985 are cosmetically fairly different, so it'd be immediately jarring to any viewer watching), and I haven't seen them license an older show from Fremantle for fewer than 200 episodes so odds are they've leased more than the 109 (IIRC) episodes from the start of the run that GSN's skipped previously.

Most likely they've just done a linear 200 episode lease, and will cycle back a couple of weeks after the Larsen episodes air (those episodes were numbered in the high 180s if memory serves)

Has GSN ever aired the Larson episodes as the two half-hour episodes they originally were (i.e., outside of the documentary)?

They did on Thanksgiving (or some holiday) one year, IIRC.

GSN also aired them during their pathetic and highly-"Dafuq?"-inducing 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time series. I've seen the thread where the forum discussed it; some good laughs to be had there, mostly at GSN's expense. :)
