Schedule Changes (10/15)
« on: October 05, 2012, 11:34:46 AM »
Starting on Monday October 15, these changes will occur:

9:00am: Card Sharks (Replaces Password Plus)
9:30am: Press Your Luck (Replaces Karn Feud)
12:00pm: The $100,000 Pyramid (Replaces Whammy!)
12:30pm: The $25,000 Pyramid (Replaces Lingo)

So Press Your Luck returns after a 3 year absence. And other than Jeopardy!, this will be the first time in quite a while that the whole morning schedule is pre-1990.

Interesting.  Sorry to see P+ go.  I guess it'd be too much to ask for CS to be later episodes of Perry.

The three questions then (which will have to wait for new PDFs to be released) are which version of CS, which part of the run of PYL, and will the noon Pyramid episodes be repeats of the 10AM ones?

When did they change from having P+ on in the late night hour? 11pm-4am is one hour of Feud, one hour of Baggage, two hours of Feud, one hour of Baggage. Really?

Glad to see PYL back. I wonder where they're going to start? It would make the absence worthwhile if they pick up some new episodes.

Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

Wondering which version of CS we'll see. I also hope they at least keep PP on weekends.

On a Friday night three or four weeks ago.  My DVR picked up The $25K Pyramid and Super Password on the Thursday of that week, but not the following night.

Wonder if it would be too much to wish for PYL to start from the beginning ("but but but it's so unpolished and stuff"---OH SHUT UP)

Also, it looks like The Pyramid replaces Whammy! at 3 PM on weekdays.

No, I agree with you. And honestly, I don't think it's too much to ask for GSN's new PYL lease to consist of the episodes they haven't aired yet (September 1983-February 1984, November 1985-September 1986). It'd finally answer some of the lingering questions about the show, it wouldn't be the same package GSN ran into the ground over the course of eight years (oversaturation and all that), and they'd be sparkling compared to even the highest-quality 1980s-90s recordings that circulate...especially if they go one further and start with the pilot.

The bonus is that in a lot of cases, GSN's chopping wouldn't really make a difference to those with editing skillz.

Of course you don't think so.

Well, hey, they seem to have gone out of their way to get "new" episodes of The $25,000 Pyramid.  It's not completely outside the realm of possibility that they'd do it for PYL.

I think it was the "don't think it's too much to ask" sense of entitlement that ground Travis's gears.

Basically I'm tired of the whining of "Why can't we have show X and episodes Y," when the whiner has little grasp on the economics of running a cable network. It would be slightly less off-putting if the words were couched pleasantly, but the intent would still be there.

At this stage, it may be the same cost to the network no matter which group of episodes they license. Previously, I would have said it would be cheaper to just license the tapes they already have, eliminating the dubbing process.  But now that they've presumably (yes, I know I'm presuming) moved away from tapes to something more modern, there's likely a dub session no matter what.

That said, I'll be happy no matter which part of the run these are from.
