WOF Announcer Poll
« on: November 29, 2010, 05:38:56 PM »
Regarding the poll "Who Should Take Over as Wheel of Fortune Annoucer?" at gameshows.about.com found here:

http://gameshows.about.com/b/2010/11/06/wh...e-announcer.htm

it is possible to increment any candidate's vote tally by directly entering the appropriate URL.

To increment Johnny Gilbert's votes:

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll1=1

To increment Rich Fields' votes:

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll2=1

To increment Randy West's votes:

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll3=1

To increment Pat and Vanna's votes:

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll4=1

To increment "Someone else":

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll5=1

To increment "Too soon to say":

http://gameshows.about.com/gi/pages/poll.h...484&poll6=1

You can increment these votes repeatedly simply by clicking on your browser's "refresh" button.

One of the candidates posted the link to increment his own votes on his Facebook page. Presumably, with repeated views of that page, he has over 54,000 votes as I write this. That is not to say this particular candidate did so with the specific intent of inflating his vote tally. On the other hand, it is my understanding that the WOF producers intend to audition other announcers. In my opinion it is grossly unfair to the other prospective announcers to conduct a poll such as this at a time when the other candidates are not known to the public and have not yet been heard on the air.

How much credence do these about.com polls hold typically? Do TPTB at WoF take any stock in them, or even know they exist? Looks like just a funsy poll to me.

When you look at how out of kilter the votes are for Rich Fields, it's hard to believe those numbers have any basis in reality.

I maintain that the poll is totally unfair to those who have yet to audition.

Oh, absolutely. I'm just asking if the poll is in any way official, or if it's just a fun poll made by some Joe on the internet. Obviously the results are BS. I'm just wondering if these polls have any actual potential to skew Sony's (or whoever's) decision in who gets the job.

I certainly hope the WOF producers pay no mind to a poll like that and make the decision with their ears based on what they hear on the air. However, on his Facebook page Rich seems to take these numbers seriously:

I strongly suspect the answer to that is "oh hells no."

Regardless of what influence they have, I did cast my vote.  My vote went to "Too soon to say."

And what exactly do you expect him to say?

Before I found out the poll is bogus I cast one vote for Randy because I personally feel he should get the job. Then, in testing those links I ran up everybody's vote total a little bit. But I agree, it is too soon to have an impartial poll and "Too soon to say" is the correct vote at this point.

He'd have been better off not saying anything. What he did say suggests he thinks those wildly skewed numbers are believable.

*GASP* We're....

Freepin' a poll?

Ok with me. ;)

Quite frankly, though, I'd freep "too early."  Jeff Davis was pretty darn good but David Lawrence has his turn and then it's a whole new ball game...

Yes - was trying to correlate the (correct) idea of "It's too early."
