"Bonk": The Game Show...
« on: January 23, 2010, 01:40:47 AM »
I recently had dinner with my brother-in-law who is host of one of several traveling productions of Bonk, a very interesting game played at casinos, comedy clubs and corporate events.

For those not familiar with "Bonk", you can check it out here.

Anyhoo, he had mentioned that Fox had considered turning it into a game show about a year and a half ago.  Does anyone have any information on this (was there a pilot made, is it still under consideration by Fox, etc...?)

Not to be confused with "Snog," or "Slap & Tickle."  Although that's because there's not as heavy an emphasis on contracts as there'd be in "Snog," with Slap & Tickle requiring more props.

Like a microphone, or would that be too hard?

The A.C.S.T.'s handbook advices the use of microphones only for tournaments, and even that depends on if there's at least 20 spectators attending in the gallery.  Not withstanding that the compromise that led to that decision wasn't without a lot of infighting from players, arguing that if you have to use a microphone, you're doing it wrong.

Hell, there was a month-long edit war on Wikipedia over whether or not a recent divisional championship needed an asterisk for that very reason.  It doesn't make that much of a difference in a game's outcome, but for some of the games more-serious devotees (I call them dorks), it's the difference between a clay or lawn court in tennis.

ObGS: On Youtube, there was a Japanese game show where four comedians answered trivia questions by shouting their answer into a microphone.  The more confidence in their answer, the louder they yelled, and the more they scored if they were right.  Think of a studio booking the Who What or Where Game and The O'Reilly Factor at the same time, and just saying "Screw it, they'll both film at the same time!"

Damned if I could remember the name, though.

FAKE EDIT: Or what Mello said.

When reading this, I remember back to when my parents hired a traveling game show company to put on a show for the Family Business. There wasn't much to it, the host would pull people out of the stage to represent each group of employees, and there were lots of questions based on pop culture (think of Temptation before that came our way) Afterward, I secretly wished that those in charge had done a format other than a point for a right answer. Has anyone else been part of something like this?
