Why was the 4th round played for $3500 top value instead of 5000?

They are doing this on the GSN show at 10am today FYI

If they got through the first three rounds fast enough from 1987-early 90s, they would play the fourth round before the second commercial break, and that round was still a "Special prize" round. That was the case on today's 9/26/88 rerun. They always take a commercial after the third regular round these days.

Another note: next Monday's GSN airing from 10/3/88 will mark the debut of the now-current bonus round format(TSNRLE given at the outset of the round)

It'll also happen either this weekend or next weekend, I believe.

Wednesday for sure and I think Saturday(you have to wait long, the daytime and weekend runs have hit the same point unfortunately)

So when Wheel of Fortune started back on the weekday sked, did they start at the beginning of the 1988 season?  Were they showing this one on the weekends?

Are they still speeding up the shows?   I haven't seen GSN in a while (but will be getting satellite any day).  I remember watching it some over the summer, and it was very evident as Vanna would walk across the board.

Yeah, WOF started at the top of the 1988-89 season when it began airing on weekdays again on 10/13.

They're speeding up all the rerun programming to varying degrees, even recent stuff like 1997 J! episodes and 1999-2000 Millionaire episodes.

ugh!  The practice of time compressing shows is just hideous.  I wish advertisers would band together and protest against this.  If the "time compressed" version was what the producer/director intended for me to see, thats fine, but the fact that they are altering the show in this way makes me mad.
