I distinctly recall this train wreck happening: a week where Valerie Bertinelli went against, apparently, Robert Mandan (I'm using the Pyramid Celebrity Archives to refresh my memory). I remember watching all five episodes (it was July 2-July 6, 1979, so I must have had time on my hands); I believe she only won one game the entire week.

I feel like this is why the '80s version played better -- because they never booked celebrities whose skill levels were different -- but also led to the same ten or twelve celebs appearing over and over, even if their claim to fame got progressively sketchier.

I am concerned that "The $25,000 Pyramid" will start with the 87-88 season and "The $100,000 Pyramid" will be only the 86-87 season.

I prefer those to the 2002-03 season of The Osmond Pyramid and the 2003-04 season of D.O. Has B.O. Pyramid.

Looking back on it now, they really should have had both contestants on for the entire show, just like they did for the '80s version and '70s nighttime version. At least that way if a contestant (or celebrity) blew a round, they'd still have another chance. One round and out was too much pressure. There were a few special weeks here and there where they used this format.

While the Cullen 25 did have the second chance, it still didn't fix the celebrity dud problem, because they didn't change partners.

Well, there can be 2 Bergeron versions, Whoopi and Winkler. I haven't seen Goldberg's version on there in at least 5 years iirc.

I read on the Sony boards that not many seasons of TJW and TTD have aired on GSN. Even the CBS TJW has only aired once, and it was one season. I distinctly remembered seeing this at 11am(against TPIR no less). Allegedly, this season was found in the WCBS vaults in NYC. How the heck did it get from LA to NYC in the first place?

I think those ran during the "Pyramid" Thursday blocks from 8-10pm back in 2002.

I remember the days of CBS Joker airing at 11am and ... I want to say 3pm because I used to watch it after school (oh the days...) I think it was jettisoned to Sunday late nights (11 or 11:30) along with CBS Password right before it was pulled.

As for the shows being found in WCBS-2's vaults, prior to the mounting of the 1977 revival, Jack Barry shopped syndicated reruns of the CBS episodes for about a season. I'd say the shows found at WCBS-2 were tapes sent to the station for said rerun season.

I should also add that I believe both the 1972-73 and 73-74 seasons were found in NYC, as I recall it being mentioned that GSN already had the 1974-75 season but rarely if ever ran it.

/It's also said all fifty episodes of Spin-Off were found along with the Joker tapes, but there isn't a logical explanation for those being there...

I'd say I doubt that considering WCBS wasn't the station that aired those episodes in the NYC area.

Later on, they got the rights to the syndie Joker, but this wasn't theirs.

I always thought that WCBS operations were close to those of master control for the network, and maybe they just ended up stored at WCBS until their discovery.

That's probably it, and that would also explain why Spin-off still exists. But they apparantly didn't save everything, as we've never heard about the status of shows like Hollywood's Talking, or early days of $10,000 Pyramid, to name a couple.

Re. Joker, I believe it was only the '74-75 season that was ever syndicated, so that's the likely reason GSN had it all along.

Indeed 3PM was one of the airings...the tape I currently have in the deck (which my three most recent uploads came from) has CBS Joker at 3, $25,000 Pyramid at 3:30. This was from early 2001 (my tape has a date of Easter 2001 on it). I have another tape with another CBS Joker on it...I'll take a peek when that episode aired.

IIRC, it aired from fall 2000 (right around Thanksgiving) until, at the earliest, May of 2001. I remember Klauss posting monthly game show intros during that time, and the TJW was one he posted for Nov. or December 2000.

The CBS version was airing Sundays-only at 10? PM when I got GSN in July 2001. It got taken off for good in the shuffle that brought PYL and LMAD to the schedule, as I recall. They made it to the episode after the three Easter-week Kids Week episodes.

That sounds about right. For a while, they also showed the second or third season of the syndicated version, in that same timeslot (either 10 or 10:30).
