Owning a "piece" of a game show
« on: December 31, 2008, 02:36:24 AM »
I'm sure none of us have attained Bob Boden's level, but what game show props, nametags, etc. do we own?

The only real game show artifact I own is my Price is Right nametag, but I'm sure there are other fascinating ones here.

I have one of the last questions asked on Bergeron-era Hollywood Squares.  It was asked to Carrot Top, IIRC, but I don't remember the question off hand.

Aside from the assorted board games/videos/photos/tickets, I have one of the keys from the H2 bonus round.

I have a handful of question cards and similar small items from a number of recent shows, but my favorite one-of-a-kind is something that was never seen on-air.  I have the original notebook from 1963-64 that the producer of Password used to keep track of his celebrity bookings for both the daytime and nighttime versions.  If not for the history of it, it is just about the most unimpressive, nondescript thing you could imagine.  Just a thin green folder holding maybe a dozen sheets of typed paper (with many handwritten corrections) and the words "Celebrity Bookings" written -- in pencil! -- on the front.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I'm sure you'd rather have the dancer attached to the scroll--I'll take that little Mormon Julienne myself.  :)

(Could be worse--could be Shatner.)

Not a piece of a game show, per se, but I have a blue Wheel gift bag with Wheel T-shirt, keychain featuring a wheel layout, and an ink pen. Courtesy of a station reporter who did a story on the show during his visit to California three years ago.

Also have a red M.G.'s Crosswords tote bag, complete with a MGC T-shirt. Figured it would be a nice thing to explain to people in ten years, when they ask "What the hell is Merv Griffin's Crosswords?!" ;-)
"I just wanna give a shoutout to my homies in their late-30s who are watching this on Paramount+ right now, cause they couldn't stay up late enough to watch it live!"

Now celebrating his 21st season on GSF!

I have one of the TPiR Credit Cards.

I also have a bunch of GSN junk they sent me three years ago for noticing an error on their website.

That reminds me of one of my strangest experiences.  A producer from The Rosie O'Donnell Show called me one day asking if I could send her some episodes of some shows Rosie remembered from her childhood.  I think the plan was to use some elements of them on the show in some way.  Anyway, I did it for the kick of helping a "real" TV show, and one day, unsolicited, a huge box of Rosie swag showed up on my doorstep.  I think I still have some of the t-shirts.
