Buzzerblog.com reports that job postings are circulating in search of staff for GSN Radio, which is apparently yet another new venture for our favorite(?) network.

Here's a listing I found...this one's looking for a production assistant.
Podcaster, National Archives of Game Show History

If I could afford what would almost certainly be a pretty big pay cut, I'd think about it.

Might be a really good foot in the door for one of our recent college grads, though.

If the FCC turns down the proposed XM/Sirius merger, would we be hearing GSN Radio on both satellite radio systems, just one, or does its creation depend on the merger moving forward?

Interesting idea -- very curious about the proposed station's programming initiatives.

Not sure which channel IF the merger stalls. Look for live interactive game play and talk.

My initial reaction was one of a complete bizarre look...this seems like a HUGE gamble for a niche-at-best network.

After thinking about it, it could be a really neat channel...lots of play-along fun, some talk would be neat.

Just to toss this out there...I wonder if GSN could be considering airing repeats of old radio games (if there are even any to air).  That would be a complete treat...but I don't know if there were enough saved to justify a slot.
When you're at the grocery game and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could have at "Crazy Rachel's Checkout Counter!"

There are hundreds, actually.  There aren't too many series for which a lot of episodes exist, but there are one or two examples of dozens upon dozens of series.

The two most notable shows that would have enough for regular airings would be You Bet Your Life and Information, Please.  The scripted comedy show It Pays to be Ignorant, a spoof of panel programs, also has many surviving episodes.  Still, my guess is that this is something that is way, way off GSN's radar.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Unless it's for the overnight hours (and that's a big unless), I can't see GSN rebroadcasting classic radio game shows, or just turn on the TV feed and air the audio of GSN TV (similar to what the national cable news channels currently do for Sirius and XM).

As Mr. West noted, we should expect some talk shows and interactive games, but I'm very curious as to what in terms of talk and interactive play we should expect.  Will we see GSN Radio recruit big-name sponsors and/or financial backers to put together a big-money or big-prize quiz (say, $50-$100,000), or will the interactive play consist of winning GSN hats, Pizza Hut coupons and the like?

I may be in the minority, but I could see a casino element playing well in this kind of a format.  Poker news and chat shows, live coverage of poker tournaments, etc., could translate well on radio, plus the more modern XM and Sirius receivers could show player hands on the digital readouts.

Having worked for satellite radio in the past (did traffic and weather reports for one of the satellite services a few years ago), I can tell you that the services are not handing out the big bucks to employees, outside of major hosts, DJs and the like.  Most hires on the production side will likely be recent college or trade school (Columbia/Connecticut Schools of Broadcasting) grads who just want to get their feet wet in the business.  Few, if any, will be hardcore or casual game show fans.  I would love to see GSN Radio bring in a radio guy with knowledge of how the radio and satellite biz works, but I have my doubts.

Call-in-and-lose, minus HPOA, plus voice that paints a picture of a HPOA. Bank on it.

I cannot for the life of me see how poker-on-the-radio would be compelling. It's barely compelling on TV when you can see the cards.

Not to mention, the pacing would be plunge-a-knife-into-my-temple-and-end-it-now slow. The ad would be along the lines of "Are you a broadcaster, but have trouble keeping up with the frenetic pace of baseball?"

Not at those prices. If the listed job pays $20K a year I'd be shocked.

I wouldn't mind a service based on the old "Monitor" show.  The Winker, Gary Owens, Geoff Edwards, etc spinning some lite AC with Hugh Downs, Nick Clooney, Jim Peck, etc on news, Joe G, Vin Scully, Dick Enberg with the sports, etc and call-in games in between.  Randy West would tie it all together as imaging voice.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Oh joy!  "DJ Games:  21st Century Edition"!!!  Re-broadcasts of stupid boring radio contests from local markets!!!

Seriously, this channel has potential -- I'd love to see them come up with some creative radio games or contests like they had back in the heyday of AM Radio (circa 60s & 70s).  You young'uns who grew up on "Caller X WINS!!" contests wouldn't understand.

/At least they'll acknowledge that you are competing against other callers nationwide, unlike the evil Clear Channel scams which made their contests look like it was strictly local.
//No wonder why Clear Channel sucks nowadays and why they can't sell their stations for a legitimate profit!

It's really not worth the conjecture at this point, because we don't know the direction that they'll go, if indeed this gets off the ground. It would be worth crossing items off the list of Things That Are Not Feasible, Interesting, or Good Radio, and seeing what exists at the intersection of all three, and hoping that they'll go with that.

Figured I'd bring this back up, GSN Radio will be running "best of" segments in NYC and LA in the nearer future. Looks like the idea of syndicating it might be in the works?
