And the full-length THR article stated that Robert Smigel, the man behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Saturday TV Funhouse, will be the executive producer.

Don't think Perfesser's going to like it, but it sounds promising.

One of the posters on the AST board reports that the panel at the first pilot taping was seated thusly (SPOILERS....but only if you consider who sat where a SPOILER):

top row:  Bob "Super Dave" Einstein, Sarah Silverman, Scott Thompson
bottom row:  Rashida Jones, Norm MacDonald, Niecy Nash

They didn't attend the second taping, so I've no idea if this was the setup for the later taping.

I know exactly three of them (Sarah, Rashida, Norm).  They seem to have slotted them well.

I have faith.  It's the same faith that exploded when I saw Temptation:  The All New Failure of the Century for the first time, though....

QFT.

On tonight's Entertainment Tonight, there was a story about the new version, with clips from the old version.  Oddly, they showed a clip from an episode with Charles Nelson Reilly in the first chair.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

Hey! That seat's reserved for Bill Cullen!

I know a little something about putting on Match Game (Matt, wouldn't you say we had pretty decent material last summer?). I also made a mistake which is easy to fix. Hope that Robert Smigel gets it WRT putting on MG.

I will post what I know about producing Match Game out of public view.

I attended the second pilot taping yesterday.

I was expecting to see a 2008 revamp of the show top to bottom, but low and behold, it was the 1970's all over again. (Not that this is necessarily bad).

The set is the same, the theme has been revived (kudos to fremantle, one of my faves) and even the opening copy ("Get ready to match the stars") is back. The announcer was named Gilbert (didn't catch last name). The only game element that has changed is the super-match which now is five $1000 questions that have to be answered in 30 seconds and the player can throw out two of his worst answers and take a celeb's replacement answer instead. Head-to-head prize is double super-match winnings ($10,000 top). It was stated off camera that the S-M Answers were the result of a Quinnipiac U poll, not the  "recent studio audience" (maybe because there hasn't been one!).

Same panel config at second taping as posted here was at first. Although I thought they were trying a bit too hard to be raunchy, it was typical MG. Andy Daly did a smooth job as host and kept the game moving.

Actually, I already did.  But I'll say it here too.  Yes, I loved everything about our Match Game.  And when I say "our" Match Game, I mean Chris' Match Game.  It was his baby, and he raised it beautifully.

Thank you for the kudos. Our good friend Randy deserves the most kudos of all for coming in without having had a chance to walk through it or see the questions beforehand, and pulling it off flawlessly.

BTW, Bob Stewart has finished speaking now.

Just for the record, the Fark.com discussion about this is interesting, if only because the prospective audience of the show may be the Fark demographic.

Good comment out of many:

Quote
"Just leave it alone, Hollywood.

It was funny back when Rayburn did it because of the double-entendres. It was at a time when you couldn't say "penis" or even say "sex" on TV.

The humor was edgy and risque back then. And even then, there was only so far and so long that "Dumb Dora was so dumb...." and the overall concept of filling in the blank would be funny.

Please folks, it's been tried several times before, and failed.   Times have changed.  Give it up."

Bad comment:

This show would be a brazillion times better on HBO. If they could all get trashed, smoke and swear, who cares what the questions would be

This argument doesn't hold up for me. It makes no sense to NOT try to revive a successful product, even if there have been multiple failures to do so already.  You never know what the audience will respond to until you put it out there.

If the memory of MG73 was to be sullied beyond reparation by a bad remake, it would already be the case.
