Agreed on both counts.

Just thought of something else...I say straddle the show. Part of what made the show work in the 70s was that it was a game show that let the game take a backseat to the hijinks. I'm not saying it needs to take the form of a sitcom, but find that perfect balance of fun and games*. With returning champs, just do one Super Match, $250-500-1000, and maybe a Star Wheel, but no biggie if not.

*In other words, watch any eps. made between 1974 and '77

Yeah...the celebs gelled really well on the Marathon version.  Definitely bring in Kathy Griffin and Bruce Valanch (sp) in the Brett/Charles seats, but get someone other than Adam Corolla and that ditz who was in seat 4.

With Password, aren't we spreading Betty White out too much?

Contemporary version. I wonder if this is a cable version of that "What The Blank?" thing that Randy announced on for Fox. Randy, is there anything here you're able to share?
Not a word. Sorry.
Don't be. S'why I couched the question the way I did. :)

Jimmy Pardo's been doing a live version of "MG" for some time in LA like J. Keith's "WML?" and did it at the San Francisco Sketchfest recently.  If he's any good at it (and can attract the comedy glitterati as panelists), it would seem to me that he would have the inside on hosting the show--they sure wouldn't have to explain things to him.

That would set an interesting precedent, seeing as I believe we're fairly sure that that live MG show is completely unsanctioned by Fremantle.

The only good part of MG98 was the theme. I thought they did a good job with updating it. Other than that...pppffftttt. LOL

LAS VEGAS (Hollywood Reporter) - FremantleMedia North America is developing a contemporary version of the long-running game show "Match Game,"

NOTE TO FREMANTLE -- Pearson, your predecessor tried a "Contemporary Version" and it died a horrible death.   Here's a hint -- Follow the MG7x format to the letter, don't even think of Clinton or Britney questions and you'll do just fine!

Thing is, topical or humor relevant to the era is fine; plenty of 70s and 80s episodes (including Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour) made fun of political or pop culture humor, i.e. President Nixon, or Gene's fake "TV Guide" listings. And I have no problem with one or two 2008 references.

It's when every other question is "Dumb Dubya" or "Loose Lohan is sooooo dumb/loose..."

Oh, goodness no. That's the seat where Arlene Francis spent a week or two.
Note to whoever the host is:
If the big-money Super Match is used, please "multiply" the potential earnings; don't "times" them. Thank you.

Having just re-listened to it, I must violently disagree. This may be an arrogant statement for a non-musician, but get your Casio out and start playing scales over the preset cha-cha track, and I think you're 90% there.

WHAAAA???  The 1990 version of MG had a good remake of the theme.  The 1998 version absolutely sucked, IMO.  About as annoying as Judy Tenuta.
