I'm not taking back what I said, and I fail to see how what he said wasn't intended as a directive, considering his disdain for the weekend lineup.

And none of that surprises me one single bit.

Y'know, I'd find it funny if GSN decided to go back to season one of HS with Hoopy Goldberger.

(Speaking of which, is that the reason GSN is airing H2 eps? Because of contractual complications or something?)

He was trying to convince GSN to do something, not ordering or demanding them.  There's a difference.  It's not going to make one iota of difference to GSN, and if he believed otherwise then he certainly didn't give it much thought.  But that doesn't mean he's not allowed to express his view.

Then stop telling him not to express his opinion.  And please don't bother trying to claim that that wasn't what you were doing.

To answer the question, GSN shows the most recent version of "Squares" as part of a settlement between Sony and King World over first-look rights for game show concepts.  As part of the agreement, Sony got part-ownership of this version of "Squares" and agreed to air "repurposing" on GSN.

This started in the mid-90s, when KW tried to bring out the Roseanne Barr "Planet Hollywood Squares" project--Sony claimed that a reciprocal first-look deal KW made with Merv Griffin was assignable to them and that KW was doing the "Squares" revival without their consent.  They succeeded in getting that "Squares" project off the air.

Obviously, everything came out for the best--the two corporations continue to cooperate on, claims read by Mark Thompson in the opening of "5th Grader" aside, America's most popular game shows--and continued to cooperate on an unsuccessful pilot project this past year.

I could be mistaken, but I read BJ's question as asking why GSN wasn't airing the earlier, Whoopi/Bruce episodes of Bergeron Squares, not why GSN wasn't airing the pre-Bergeron runs.

In today's climate the name of Whoopi's production company is offensive.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Not like GSN would show it anyways.

Actually, H2 is one of the very few shows in which the end airs uncrunched.

At least in the later years, when the credits ran split-screen.  If they ever go back to the early years, they could squeeze back at least the first couple of seasons.

But didn't GSN squeezeback "Street Smarts," even though the credits usually included the outtakes from the street people interviews?

Speaking of squeezebacks, I've noticed that on some shows, mainly Lingo, 21, the original documentaries, and even Karn's Feud, GSN has inserted their own "custom" credits, against a black background. At first I thought it was just Gurin's shows, until I saw it on Feud, and realized that these (expletive deleted) don't seem to have any rhyme or reason for what they do anymore.

/slowly not liking GSN for several reasons

I know these kind of credits are the norm in today's world, but it makes me glad that most of the GSN stuff I've got came before this practise started.  I always enjoyed opening and closing credit sequences - game show or otherwise - and I think it's a shame it's kind of a lost art now.

The one thing that gets to me about them is when they crunch a show when it is not even done. Like today Gene Rayburn was still talking to the stars when GSN of course had to crunch ahead of time. That is what makes me so ticked off.

I agree, but what I meant was that GSN inserted their own black background credits, instead of say, the families chatting and clapping at center stage.
