Memo to GSN acquisition department:

Don't even *think*about it.

Well....maybe there's some hope....at least they never picked up Winning Lines!

Which means that the carryover player from last night, who had accumulated $650K, will see none of it. Yikes.

(Granted, we don't know how his game ended, but still....)

That brings up an interesting question:  since part of his game did air, wouldn't he be entitled to whatever he ended up winning?

This upsets me. I was actually entertained by the show and liked it very much. Not a popular opinion, but sad to see it go.

actually allow me to stop the "fun" as the story has just changed.  Broadcasting and Cable just sent out a "braking news" update to the story indicating that ABC has decided to pull the plug effective immediately and replace it with AFV.  The first story just said ABC cancled the order for more episodes.

See, now, I disagree with this. There are fresh episodes in the can of a gameshow that at least makes their contestants 'earn' the winnings based on their intellect (i know, stop laughing).

Why wouldn't a channel which airs similar shows 24/7 NOT go after this programming for cheap?

Man, I sure wouldn't mind having a Denny Crane type representing me in a situation like this.

"Your honor, Exhibit A is this video tape of an aired show in which my client had won $650,000.  Exhibit B is the lack of any aired evidence that he lost.  By pulling their show before my client finished the game. the producers showed bad faith, yada yada yada."

Honestly, if Shatner himself wasn't in the middle of this, this would be the sort of hyper-bizarre, just-ridiculous-enough torn from the headlines (sort of) story that would be right at home on Boston Legal.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

The problem with GSN picking up unaired SMTM, Rich List or even Winning Lines from a half decade ago, is that all of those contestants would then have to be paid, correct?
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Do we even know for sure the "if it doesn't air, they don't get paid" rule is still in effect? GSN aired a handful of Match Game 79s that CBS booted; I doubt those people got their clams.

I am giving you the strangest look you have ever received in your life.

The game sucked and it sucked in the ratings. Is that not reason enough to pass on it?

For every MG episode that airs on GSN, they're on the hook to pay all AFTRA members who appeared (six panelists plus the estates of Gene Rayburn and Johnny Olson) as well as the director Marc Breslow, and all music royalties. Theoretically they're also on the hook to pay prize money to the contestants who didn't get it the first time around. Theoretically.

What, nobody's going to say it got the T.J. Hook? Er...

Seriously, it looked like a game show created by somebody who hasn't seen a game show produced before 2003. The cancellation was only logical.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

I wonder how they broke the news to Shatner.

ABC set their phasers to STUN...

Or from the UK top 10 Hit from the 80s, "Star Trekkin'", ABC could have said (to sum up all of their recent news regarding SMTM)...

"We come in peace,
Shoot to Kill, Shoot to Kill, Shoot to Kill,
We come in peace.
Shoot to Kill, Shoot to Kill, men!"

I am sure the producers will be speaking to a lawyer named Danny Crane about this.

Clever, but it's Denny.

Thanks.  I should've realised that.

This is the cynic in me talking here but, think that might have something to do with the apparently hasty decision?

...maybe?
