Pat O'Brien has improved every show he's touched. That guy's great.

And to continue on his unexceptional track record, Price was weatherman at WBBM in Chicago in the mid-90s, at the absolute low point of that news shop's recent history, before he moved to Philadelphia and then on to New York.

But if you've got Les Moonves' wife in your corner, perhaps it is all a fait accompli.

A friendly reminder to those of you -- and you know who you are -- who have emailed or IMed me, or are thinking of doing so, to ask that the moderators of the Game Show Forum take an official position on who should replace Bob: no, that would not "guarantee" that our choice would get the job, and no, we're not seeking suggestions for such a campaign.

Thank you for your attention.  That is all.

The Staff of the Production Company have not been given ANY official word of the hiring of a new host.

I will definately not dispute that Dave Price is not being highly considered, but as far as the folks that work in the bungalow know, no decision has been made.

CBS making their own "premature" decisions is a completely different story, I'm sure.
This raises the question of how many test tapings will it take to convince Julie and Les CBS that he's not the right guy?

I was gonna suggest Matt O. be our official pick, but do they have flights out of Lansing?
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Frankly, I'm not sure what would be more enlightening: the names of the people who made the request, or the names of the people they want us to endorse.  (Few would be surprised at the former and I haven't worked up the courage to ask for the latter.)

If he is named host as expected, give him at least two years, if he does last that long. Remember what happened with Dylan Lane.

And you remember what happened with Richard Karn. Four years, and he acted the same way he did his rookie year.

If CBS doesn't go for someone who established themselves at TPiR Live, then their priorities are in the wrong place. I understand the "Early Show" thing, and how it would be oh-so-cute to have a host named "Price", but if he can't host his way out of a paper bag, then to hell with him.
"I just wanna give a shoutout to my homies in their late-30s who are watching this on Paramount+ right now, cause they couldn't stay up late enough to watch it live!"

Now celebrating his 21st season on GSF!

Don't forget about how we felt about Howie Mandel taking on a game show and he turned ou great to surprise us all. I'd give Dave a year to see if he settles in.

And if that helps you not to throw your TV out the window, that's spiffy, but there are several factors that make that argument utterly irrelevant:
  • Deal was an unproven format. (For some of us, it still is, at least the way they're doing it in the US.) If people don't know what to expect, they're not gonna worry overmuch about the host. TPiR has been around for 30 years, people have expectations, and it's arguably the highest-profile job in the industry.
  • People at least knew Howie's name. Maybe not as a game-show host, but they knew who he was. As much as CBS would like to believe otherwise, nobody knows who Dave Price is.
  • Howie was rough at the start, but didn't abjectly suck. By all reports, this guy is horrible.
Of course I'm willing to see myself, just as I was with Mandel, but with Mandel I had a blank slate to work from, and in this case we have documented proof that he's just not at the level the job calls for.
