A highly trusted source told me this afternoon that Bob Barker will
be retiring as host of The Price Is Right at season's end.
The press will be told later today.
You know my history. I would not lie to you. That is all.

Obviously, we will know for certain if this is true.  Not questioning you, Don.  I think you know that.

If it is true, it's a good time since Barker will be celebrating 50 years on TV on New Years Eve.

When the history of this event is written, let it be known that Don was all of five minutes ahead of Marc Green posting a similar message to Golden Road.

Here we go!

You're kidding about Bob Barker retiring, aren't you?

I thought he was going to renew his contract for five more seasons..

If true, that would be shocking.

As Don said, it's no joke.  I have it confirmed two other places, and FOX News also has it but hasn't decided to go with it yet.

Yeah, of all people on this forum, Don is one whose word I will trust.

The end of an era, that's for sure. Speculation on what's going to happen once he retires has been beaten to death more than any other topic in my 11 years of the online game show community.

That said, it will be very interesting to see how things play out, now that it's actually happening.

Unfortunately, it's true. Got a call about an hour ago.

Man, word travels fast (expected, considering the news)

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Didn't Rod Roddy mention in an interview that there were plans to continue the show once Bob left?  Or is my memory starting to fail me?

Well, this was going to happen sooner or later; I was just hoping it wasn't going to happen now.

Better purchase a LOT of bandwidth, guys. That's all I'm going to say.

Cue obligatory "Who's going to replace Bob/what's going to happen with TPiR?" thread in 3, 2, 1....

Dude...do you think they would just leave the show end with Bob?  They are going to try and continue it with someone else.

(Current over/under on how many "Who Will Replace Bob" threads is 3).

He was THAT broken up about finishing behind Cullen in the poll?

Seriously - and I'm not that big a Barker fan, although I used to watch T or C every day - this is one of the great broadcasting careers coming to an end.

(if true, of course- gotta leave myself an out)

I'll just state this, I do intend on giving whoever the new host is a chance before I pass judgement.  They did find a good replacement for Rod, after all (Apologies to you Rich Fields-haters, I find him to be a worthy successor).

Just talking about this at work with some folks...realized that I (and a couple other people here) have not known a time when Bob Barker wasn't hosting TPiR every weekday morning.

So who will be next? Hmmmmm.... (if this is true, which I bet it is. Going out on 35 is a good, round TPiR number.)
