Almost exactly the same game.

Also not completely accurate. If you answer five right and hit the big numbers on all of them, and miss six and hit the small numbers, you still leave with a lot of money.

Close enough, though.

But the game is over if you answer six incorrectly. If you miss six consecutive questions without answering one correctly, you walk away with zip, correct?

The way you describe it, it's worse than I thought. You can lose the game and still walk away a rich person because there is no economic consequence for losing the game.

Now that I re-read Lemon's description, I just realized how horribly flawed that is. I mean, even with Millionaire, if you get to the million dollar question, you could lose $475,000, which is a big jump. Even on D/ND, you could go from $500,000 to $5 with one wrong pick. Hell, even 1 vs. 100 has an all-or-nothing risk to it.

That's pretty broken with this show.

Ahh, but don't forget the Killer Card.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

What about it? There are 13 "cards" in play. You can absolutely play 11 of them (the maximum number of questions in a game) without ever seeing it.

Look, IIRC we had increments of $20K up to $220K, and then $250K, and the Killer.

So if you hit the top 5 amounts, that's...$1,010,000.

Then you miss 6...but it's the bottom 6! For a penalty of $420,000.

Which means, for missing more than you got right, you receive a payday of $590,000.

Obviously, this is an extreme example, but you see my point. The only time you "lose it all" is if you hit the Killer, miss that question, and THEN can't answer Shatner's Killer Question Of Extreme Anal Chafing. Every other time it's (money from correct answers) - (money from incorrect answers).

Again, this results in a show with not one shred of drama, suspense, tension, irony, or any other entertainment value outside of dancing girls and a septugenarian go-go boy.

On the hand you flip clemon's example and answer 6 right and still lose

Both are unlikely but if they played enough games it would happen.

Notice I said if.

I really don't get the wailing and gnashing of teeth over this trifle.  Isn't something like The Joker's Wild just as "broken" because you could answer every question right and still lose?  Pick a letter correctly every single time on Wheel of Fortune, but still lose the game with a couple of ill-timed Bankrupts?  Wait your whole life to play Jeopardy! only to go up against the Greatest Player Ever?  (Bitter, table for one.)

Big Shaterday* is definitely a game where Lady Luck is queen, but knowledge is still king.  Yes, you might miss more than you get right and still win a shatload of money.  You could also answer more than you miss and still go home with nothing.  Still, just like Millionaire (or, for that matter, 1 vs 100) answer the questions correctly, and you're rewarded with a win.  Even the Killer Card doesn't take that away from you.  With so many game dependent on luck, that's a nice change of pace.  And the girls are hot.

Now that we've established that Endemol is most decidedly not the next Goodson-Todman (I'll be the first to apologize for ever making that comparison), can anyone think which, if any, of the current game show houses is still a high-quality one?[/quote]

I don't think that's quite fair. Endemol can make perfectly good shows.

Just not in the US, for whatever reason.

Yes, but in all of the your examples you're playing against somebody else, which seems to me to create more drama for the viewer.  (Especially in the Jeopardy! example.  Damn, I felt for that guy.)

Let it be known that there is no wailing or gnashing of teeth here. 'Cuz really, I have enough other problems with the show that the format is the least of it.

Your point is a good one...as long as you don't miss a single question, you can't lose. I think the difference between this and TJW is that on TJW you were playing for $1500, a refrigerator, and a trip to Guadalajara, and here we're throwing around Life-Changing Amounts Of Money(tm).

Raw stank-assed luck for a bedroom set, I don't mind. Raw stank-assed luck for $500K or more, I mind. But ultimately, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

All right, then, let me help.  Next time you're offered $500K or more for being stank-assed lucky, give me half.  ;)

(I'll even give a big chunk of it to the charity of your choice.)
