GSN's ownings of shows

(1/1)

splinkynip:
Can someone please explain to me why exactly GSN is not part of Sony anymore since LibertyMedia (?) came in to the picture?  Now they have to lease library programming from Sony I understand?  Would this explain why they are only running 3rd season $100,000 Pyramid, 1997-1998 Jeopardy, and as of this weekend, starting over the 1988-1989 season on Wheel of Fortune?  They can't or won't get access anymore to other seasons and just will continue to air what they were running when Liberty arrived?

catnap1972:
I thought that GSN had purchased a number of series from their parent company (Sony) and now owned them outright, instead of having to lease them piecemeal (wasn't there even a blurb on GSN's boards?).

Is this not true?

Chelsea Thrasher:
As of the 50% buyout in 2000, GSN must lease it's shows from Sony Pictures Distribution, just like everyone else.   Apparently, for some reason, they only have 1 season of each show as of now.     That's why Pyramid, Wheel, and J! are rerun-incarnate
