The new Lingo season begins airing weeknights at 7:30PM EST starting on 4/3. Those that see one of the commercials for it will get a semi-spoiler about how high the progressive jackpot for a first-ball Lingo in the bonus round will go(starts at $10K and goes up $1K a day until won), so be warned

Oh no!!! Now we know that the jackpot actually does get bigger! That just ruins the entire new season for me!

Jeez come on, do you not want them to promote the new Jackpot? If you would even consider it a spoiler, that is the smallest spoiler ever. Nitpick much?

Networks doing minor and major spoilers before game shows air is a pet peeve some have here is all. They could have promoted the jackpot without showing clips of Chuck announcing an amount over $10K, but they didn't.

It would be one thing if GSN said someone would win $XX,000 on April Xnd. So what, they showed a big dollar amount? How do we know that that will be the jackpot that's won? It could get much higher than that, which makes more sense to me--get the viewers' hopes up about a nice jackpot, only to find that it's not won. Therefore, viewers keep tuning in to see when the jackpot WILL be won. Like Dave said, we already know there's a progressive jackpot involved. Showing how high it'll potentially get is hardly an issue.

I think GSN knows what they're doing, so let them do their job, instead of telling them how to do it.

I love progressive jackpot shows. Love them to pieces. Guess that's what drew me in to Bowling For Dollars, Dialing For Dollars, Money Movie 7 and the United Artists Prize Movie as a youth.
Even though the shows were local and the cash awards not so high, there was always the allure of "how high will it get?". And those programs were LIVE! so they couldn't be spoiled.

Seriously...I don't see anything in them besides the "more money" factor. I don't like the fact that Cindy gets stuck with a crappy celeb, after winning the first two games. Joe Blow, who isn't very good gets lucky, and his celeb. partner bails him out on both his puzzle solutions.

Joe Blow also gets lucky and gets all 10, winning $50,000. Joe Blow gets smeared in his next game.

Contestant David Smith comes in, and wins 5 straight games; and 5 straight Super Password rounds, and yet only wins $25,000.

Progressive jackpots on a show without returning champions is no more fair. I wonder if GSN really WILL run the shows in order, despite the progressive jackpots dictating them to do so. Feud has returning champions(no progressive jackpots) but doesn't run the shows in the order of taping, so we see a different champion from the show beforehand sometimes.

I dislike progressive jackpots for the same reason as Mark, and for another reason--it's lazy budgeting.

OK. I take your point. But do you agree with the way $ale of the Century handled it during the Winners' (or is it Winner's?) Big Money Game period where the cash award increased per win by an individual contestant ($5000 first time, $6000 second time and so on then back to $5000 when a new champ took over)? This way a winner wasn't disadvantaged by their timing.

Indeed. I actually make an exception when it comes to $ale--I enjoy all 3 of the bonus formats the show used.
